I have a friend that works at the Ames airport and said an ISU charted private jet was traveling to the ATL and returning the next day. That's scheduled for next week. Not sure what's in the ATL. But I assume this has something to do with the coaching search.

I can't agree more, I think we need to throw money at this guy and get him to Ames. He has never had a losing season at multiply levels of football. He is a proven winner.
The dude was an option QB at kNU and won a national title. He spent two years coaching defense at UNI, and coached WRs and is now the "OC" at Oregon. I seriously doubt Helfrich gave up play calling duties (although I'm happy to admit I'm wrong if someone knows for sure).
What recruiting connections does he have in the midwest? Played for Tom Osborne? Nothing shows that Frost knows how to recruit coordinators or kids to the northern outpost of a southern-centric conference; and no, Oregon is not the same. They have a prolific history ISU would kill for.
I agree, if he has interest in the job Jamie would be foolish to not listen to his pitch. I don't think it is a good idea to give Frost the job for him to learn on the fly.
We did the basketball interviews in Atlanta and we are using the same search firm for football I think, so that's where the interviews are napping(happening) again I think.

I can see Pollard's reasoning for this. Pollard is all about growing the Iowa State brand, fan base, and resources. By hiring a clean cut coach like Rhoads, ISU took massive leaps in all 3 of those areas in the last 7 years. Everybody loved Rhoads which got people excited, buying tickets, and donors opening pocket books. Because of this approach, look how much better off ISU is now than it was before Rhoads was hired despite the fact that we've had bad records the last 3 years.
Sure you can do the same thing by just plain winning, but how much winning can ISU do in it's present state? Also that doesn't always work. Look at Bo Pelini. He was far from clean cut, but won and literally no one cared.
Clean cut won't be the end all be all but it definitely is an important factor for a program trying to build like Iowa State.

I'm delighted with the pool of candidates. We've always managed to get an excellent pool of candidates. But it's the next step where we haven't done well- where we've gone wrong in previous searches is in selecting a coach from a pool of candidates. Hindsight is 20/20, I know. But I would hope we go back examine how we made the final selections in the past.
"Pollard's profile" as CW calls it. Is Pollard over-emphasizing certain characteristics and under-emphasizing others?

Yup, totally boxed me. Like I said I just can't unsee Turner Gill at Kansas. Leipold is far more qualified than Gill ever was.
It took Lance Leipold 106 games (as a head coach) to get 100 wins. Wrap your head around that. That is amazing at any level. You do not win that many games without knowing what you are doing. He obviously has a system (a program) that he has followed. Willie Fritz is my personal favorite candidate; but, I am certainly NOT dismissive of Lance Leipold.
I agree. I don't get the love. Especially since there are good head coaching candidates out there and we just fired our last two coordinators. Not to mention how do we even know that the offense is doing well because of Frost when Helfrich is still there?
Looked up his history. Wow. Although he apparently was 5-6 in his first year, but every year since has been a winning record. Intriguing.
I've seem Buffalo play and they are nothing to write home about, that would blow up in Pollard's face. I've said it for 3 months I believe Matt Campbell would be our next coach if Rhoads was fired, heard he was interested in ISU for quite some time and that's from a relative in the athletic department.
I know little about leipold so am not jazzed about him. But he may grow on me. If we are willing to look at Stitt we should consider him.

I would be thrilled with Fritz, he's shown the ability to utilize the strengths of his team and can coach the spread and option offenses. Would be a great hire for ISU. I also think Stitt would be a good hire also.
Reasons Frost should be at or near top of the list:
- Former QB
- Won national championship beating Peyton Manning
- Familiar with Midwest/Ames
- 3rd round NFL pick
- Coached by Osborne, Bill Walsh, Parcells, Belichick, Gruden
- Coached under Chip Kelly
- OC for one of the most prolific offensive programs in the country
- Young, energetic guy wanting to prove himself
- Former QB
- Won national championship beating Peyton Manning
- Familiar with Midwest/Ames
- 3rd round NFL pick
- Coached by Osborne, Bill Walsh, Parcells, Belichick, Gruden
- Coached under Chip Kelly
- OC for one of the most prolific offensive programs in the country
- Young, energetic guy wanting to prove himself
