Thoughts on Mizzou-Iowa

First off, anytime you beat a top 15 opponent in a bowl game, it's a fairly big deal. Winning the insight bowl probably woudn't garner much attention nationally but beating the 12th ranked team will.

I thought going in that it would be an interesting game because the teams were so fundamentally different. Mizzou couldn't handle Iowa's power running game and Iowa couldn't handle Mizzou's spread offense.

It was a classic coin-flip game. Both teams had two turnovers but Iowa scored on one of theirs which was the difference in the game.

Both teams played very well on offense for the most part. I was really impressed with Gabbert's arm and Mizzou's o-line. ISU fans were right about the fact that he folds like a cheap tent under pressure but his o-line did a good job of protecting him for most of the game. As good as Mizzou's o-line was, Iowa's played better. One play all game that went for a loss. Stanzi had all day to throw and Coker had big holes to run through. Stanzi was mediocre at best. Really it was his career in a nutshell. Some really good throws, some really bad throws and somehow the team won inspite of his mistakes.

I thought the Zebras did a good job. There were holding calls on both sides that weren't called and there were a few questionable spots but overall not too bad.

It was a fun game to watch. Iowa started fast, but seemed to fade as the game wore on. To me it seemed Missouri was in control, but defense wins games and once again Norm Parker prevailed. Ken O Keefe had a nice offenisve call on the next to last play.

Good game. I wasn't planning on staying up that late, but glad I did.

McNutt, Sash, & Prater could go pro early but the odds are at best 50/50 for any of them. None will be 2nd round or better.

It was a good game. It's amazing to me that Iowa actually had the edge in TOP despite running almost 30 fewer plays. There wasn't quite as many points scored, but it kinda reminded me of the Iowa-Wisconsin game where both offenses were doing pretty much what they wanted to and it was just a matter of which team could make the biggest play. I love those types of games.

I expected Stanzi to look poor w/out DJK, and I knew Missouri's offense is the same kind that gives Iowa fits. Gabbert is very accurate, but as you found out, he is easily confused and prone to just making idiotic decisions some times. Iowa always struggles with precision QBs, especially when you have receivers on LBs.

I was pretty shocked that Iowa won, and think that if they played again, Missouri would win. Coker's ability was a shock to everyone, I think.

It sort of felt last night that Missouri was the more capable team, and they had a good game plan, even slowing Coker some in the second half while making Stanzi mostly ineffective, but they self destructed, and Iowa was able to capitalize. Gotta give Parker credit for throwing some blitzes in there too. Gabbert doesn't respond well to having new wrinkles thrown at him like that.

Face it, Missouri handed Iowa the win. INT in the endzone at the end of the first half on a fluke play, and the pick six at the end when Missouri was going in for another score to put it away.

That's a 21 pt difference right there. Missouri should have had 7 at the end of the first half, and the pick six was a 14 pt swing basically. But Iowa made those plays and Missouri didn't. Had Missouri made them, they win going away, but they didn't.

I just loved how that female reporter kept badgering KF about the off the field issues, both at halftime and after the game. KF wasn't too pleased about it. I guess if he doesn't want questions about it, he should run a tighter ship.

How in the world is the pick 6 a 14 point swing, Hyde picked it off at about the 30? That is like saying the pick Missouri had at the Iowa 18 that was returned to the 43 and led to one of their TD's was a 14 point swing as well.

If you cannot appreciate the pick six then you must not like football much.

I've never said ARob was "great". He is VERY average at best.

Coker is really good and had a great game, but it's not like it hasn't been done to Missouri on the ground this year... and even worse when Helu ran for over 300.

And it probably is a stretch to call the pick six a 14 pt swing, but Iowa was not having luck stopping Missouri much at all late in that game.

Over 500 yds of offense is nothing to brag about. Missouri shot themselves in the foot and Iowa took advantage of it.
