This win was so big for this team, for so many reasons. It wasn't big because Texas Tech is a great team (they'll go 7-5 at least), but it was big for many, many reasons:

1) This team absorbed Tech's best shot, and just kept punching back. Did any of the rest of you guys "know" that we were going to blow the game when Tech mounted their comeback? I sure did. A McCarney or Chizik team would have NEVER recovered from that rally. I think the entire stadium got that "here we go again" feeling in the pit of their stomach when that punt snap went wild, and then when Tech quickly got the game knotted up. This team, and maybe more importantly, this fanbase learned something tonight: a Paul Rhoads team is going to fight, and they aren't going to just unravel after a few good quarters. Unless they're playing Iowa.

2) Austen Arnaud. This guy has been absolutely crucified by our fan base, and went out there with a sore shoulder and played a near perfect game. Great touch on his deep balls, and made some clutch throws (TD to Franklin comes to mind). He played up to his ability, and it really energized our entire offense. This guy is our ******* quarterback. He threw more TDs in the first half than Tiller has in his career, which includes 3 starts. Can we please quit acting like there's a QB controversy?

3) Penalties. They were still really bad in the first half, but in the 2nd half, when we needed to move the ball, our guys played more disciplined ball then we've seen all year in this regard. The only one I can remember was on the drive that lead to Hammerschmidt's TD, where Alvarez got a false start taking us from 1st and goal on the 5 to 1st and goal on the 10. This still needs to be addressed, but appeared to be getting a little better, at least from a timeliness aspect.

4) Collin Franklin and Darius Reynolds. These guys are play makers, and we need to be getting the ball in their hands more often, plain and simple. Arnaud has some chemistry with both of them, and we need to play into that.

5) Offensive line. FINALLY some run blocking. That's what we were looking for. KO played a lot better, it seemed, and quit down on his penalties, as well as moving men like an animal. We weren't consistent enough (that 3rd and short where Woody got blown up was baaaaad), but some serious improvement.

6) Shontrelle Johnson. FINALLY, a highly touted player that lives up to the expectations. Let's just hope he doesn't get Mike Wagner syndrome.

7) Jeff Woody. He's more effective out of the Pistol, than the standard shotgun, but again, great change of pace. With him and SJ, we have a great 1-2 punch for a long time.

8) A-Rob. Missed ya buddy! Glad to see this man back with a vengeance!

9) Bend-but-don't-break broke a little too much last night. Our pressure on the QB was a lot better, but there were some terrible errors by our D-backs. LJ got freaking abused on that final TD by Tech. Just burned. That said, 3rd straight game with an INT for AJ Klein (wished he'd have kept going to keep that pick 6 streak alive though), and our defense nutted up and got some really, really important stops in the 2nd half, after taking a haymaker from the TTU offense. The stop that allowed us to go up by 14 again was one of the most important plays of the game.

10) Jeremy ******* Reeves. This kid is all heart, and a lot of ability. Looking forward to the rest of his Cyclone career. Players make plays, and this guy is no exception.

We stood toe to toe with a solid South opponent, scored a butt ton of points, and took an absolute haymaker from them. We held on to win the game, and I think it gave our team a ton of confidence. There was nothing at all flukish about this game. We straight up were the better team.

Onward and upward, Clone fans.

I still think beating Neb last year was the biggest.

Anyway, this was a good TEAM win. I can't remember the last time I watched our guys play up to their potential. Its a great confidence builder going in to next week.

I won't lie... going into the 2nd half I thought we were going to get blown out.

I'm not going to argue that, I'm just saying this was a really, really good win, if only for the fact that we took their best punch and kept going.

I agree that, in terms of psyche of our team and fanbase, this may have been bigger than Nebraska. I can't even remember the last time we blew a big lead and rallied to still win the game in a confident manner. I would have loved to hear CPR at halftime and what he told these men.

One thing that we as fans need to do is keep an open mind these next few weeks. Utah, Texas and Oklahoma are going to be very tough teams to beat. Losses to them do NOT mean we need to give up. Wins would be great, but they'll be incredibly tough to get. It doesn't mean our team is bad. We need to look at this win and use it in the grand scheme of how our team is developing, not from game-to-game, but as an organization as a whole.

I agree and disagree. A win against Utah OU or Texas would be program changers.

This game was big in my mind partially because it "erased" that K-State loss. When we were considering whether we could make a bowl game this year, a lot of us had K-State as a win and Tech as a loss. It sure would have been nice to get that win over K-State, but this win kind of evens things back up and gets us back on track to get to another bowl.

I still think beating Neb last year was the biggest.

Both big in different ways. The upset in Lincoln was huge (and has become the face of Rhoad's program), but it was a flukish game where we were very oppertunistic

This game we **** stomped a team that tried to come back so we **** stomped on them some more without giving up. As Al pointed out, we're all used to this happening and us not being able to stop the other team or come back if they pass us.

Last night the team showed they can point up points (something we've been struggling with all year), and that when someone is coming back that they can get it together again, and that is huge!

I think this game showed how good we can be with a very balanced offense. I was impressed with how many different receivers got in the game this time and they all made great catches. Having a bunch of different guys making plays really opened up the run game for us too.

It was the second best win of Rhoads era so far, which meant a lot with the schedule we have this year and every year from now on. With the round robin we are going to have to consistently beat good teams who may have more speed and athleticism than us, we did that last night.

Rhoads is 10-8 including a bowl win so far and we're nearly half way into a real meat grinder of a schedule for '10. Plenty of room for optimism.

Good post, but I don't think LJ got beat. I think it was a zone and the safety was supposed to come over top and pick op the receiver. LJ had a very good game.

This game was big. And I have a man-crush in Collin Franklin. The guy is always open when we need a big conversion. And even if he's not open, he plays hoover on the ball and makes the play anyway.

Tons of positives in this one. I don't think we're ready to bank on upsets during next three games, but just showing that we can hang with ranked teams, even if we take the losses, would show that things are changing. We erased the KSU loss, playing tough in the next three could erase the Iowa loss in the same manner. That would set us up nicely for the end of the season push for bowl eligibility, especially if we can steal any one of the three.

Woody was fun to watch last night. Off the top of my head, he had 12 carries, covered a ball on special teams and make a big tackle on a kickoff. He's a tough kid that's finding places to contribute.

There was also a different feel to the defense at times. Call it swagger, I suppose. We were blowing guys up on open field tackles. It showed some fire and aggression, and made for some great replays. Benton crushed an RB in the flat right in front of us. He hit the guy so hard his grandma died. We haven't seen much of that this year.

The only thing I don't agree with is Tech going at least 7-5. They can expect a dog fight with Baylor next week, and wins might be few and far between. They face a lot of good offenses the rest of the way out. OSU, ATM, and Houston come to mind.

Great points on Chizik and McCarney. They would have packed it up and gone home when it got tied at 24.

I view this win as very similar to Nebraska last year...they made it through to the 4th, then when it was time to sack up, they GOT IT DONE! ISU is back on track in terms of needing an upset win and then take out CU and KU. Mizzou hasn't been unstoppable this year either. Go State!

Great team win. A lot of improvement in the entire team play. Top to bottom, everyone played with HEART and a fire in their belly. A team takes on the personality of their Coach. This team doesn't quit. And I like how we did the fake punt. That helps immensely when teams have to respect that threat. It slows down their rush. And also helps us in defending punt returns in the long run.

Great TEAM win. Go Clones.

Agreed. Right now, THIS is the greatest win. As the other posters have said, right now, for our team's confidence, this was a very important win. The way it was won is even more important: AS A TEAM.

I'm PROUD TO BE ONE!
