I wish they would just pick one and run with it. I don't like the whole world (esp non-ISU students, alums, fans) inspecting our laundry like this.

Remember the "new" Hawk logo a few years ago? Herky of Meth:biglaugh:

At least no one is pushing something as lame as that.

I like the whole idea. The FB team gets to plaster ISU all over the sports page and they don't even have to play a game. I don't know what to think about the new helmet choices. I liked one better than the other two, but they all looked pretty generic to me.

I think they wanna make sure its acceptable. i think they have already chosen the I state helmet and wanna see how many think its the best.

Im excited for new uniforms personally. I think the white helmets will look great under the lights.

I don't think anybody needs to put too much stock into this poll.

As mentioned in the thread about fanfest, sounds like JP might have his mind made up on the white helmets with the "I State" logo.

This probably doesn't have as much to do with fan input, as it does stirring the pot, getting the juices flowing and getting ISU more air and print time.

Timing seems a little auspicious, no? I mean, if they really gave a rip what the fans thought - would they launch this poll now? No, the would've done it May or something, when there's ample time and nothing else going on.

This is a precursor and introduction for a new era in ISU football and getting fans excited. Hold a gun to JP's head, I'd wager you'd find out that the decision has long been made and the order already placed with the uniform company.

It is fun thought, isn't it?

As much as I loathe the white helmets and all of the bland and unoriginal logo options, I have resigned myself to the fact that it's going to happen. Of all of them, I find the "I-State" logo to be the least objectionable, so I guess I hope they choose that one. I agree with the other posters who think that JP and Chizik have probably already picked that one out and are just letting fans sound off in a meaningless online poll to generate interest. I may hate the uniforms, but that won't affect how hard I cheer for the team. Ugly white helmets or no ugly white helmets... Let's go State!

You should save your loathing for something worthwhile...like the hawkeyes or any other opponent...not our FB helmets.

I'm just taking a wild guess here, but the Iowa State header at Home - CYCLONES.com—The Official Web Site of Iowa State University Athletics has the same font as the I State logo so I am thinking that it is a foregone conclusion as to which logo will win out.

Wouldn't go that far just based on the header - the ISU helmet is in the same lettering as the header as well. That being said, it probably is going to be the I-State logo. I just find it strange that everyone's complaint was that Cy was too busy for the helmet and too difficult to read on TV, yet everyone thinks that the busy "I-State" logo is perfect for the helmet (and will likely be difficult to read on TV).

The ISU is in that same font as well.

I wish if they had their mind made up that they would have just revealed one as the new design. I'm sure I would like the I-State design better if I hadn't seen the classic look of the ISU helmet. I still think I-State is a little too modern, and the gold "State" doesn't show up as well on the white background as the all red ISU.

I'm no design major but the difference in the current "swirly-butt" logo and the "I-State" logo is about 40 light-years in terms of recognizablility. At least now we'll only be confused with other "I" states rather than people saying "now which MAC/Conference USA team is that again?"

You really think so? Instead of everyone asking "what does ISU stand for? Illinois State? Indiana State?" are instead going to be asking "What does I-State stand for? Illinois State? Indiana State?"

And no it's not 40 light-years in terms of recognizability. That gold gets lost in the white and all you're going to see from the distance is a muddled logo on a white helmet. But hey, whatever makes yourself feel better at night...

Yes I really think so and I don't think I'm in the minority here. Anytime I look at the helmets for next year and then remember that we have to suffer through our current helmets for another year it's a downer. My personal preference would have been a simple "I" on the helmet but hey, I can live with the designs they came up with.

Yeah, well, when I look at these new helmets I see "Iowa State's attempt to look like every other university football team in the nation."

At least we were unique with our last helmet.

The argument here is that nobody else is "I State". With the eventual hope that we can use that for branding--it's unique. EVENTUALLY everyone nationally would know that WE are "I State"--where ISU could be any number of colleges.

Of course, the continued problem is what would our abbreviation be? For sports scores and tickers, there's usually 3 (or 4) letters allowed. ISU of course is easy, but not unique. Perhaps IST? Or ISE? Or ISTE?

If we went with Cyclones as the branding, we could be CY or CLNS (no--too close to clowns) or CYC (which is fairly humorous).

This might be a "test the waters" situation for a major new university-wide branding idea (nobody else is Cyclones. And nobody else refers to themselves as "I State"). OR it could just be a way to generate buzz for a year or two (or more). (I think this is more likely.)

Whatever else anyone says--white is one of the best background colors to use when you want readability (assuming dark colored logo/font). Gold (or yellow) wouldn't be bad either.
