Things to do in KC

See if you can get a tour of Boulevard Brewing. Power and Lights District is a good time. BBQ is awesome in KC, there are all kinds of posts in CF about that if you search.

The Arabia Steamboat Museum is underrated.
Arabia Steamboat

A coworker highly recommended this to me the last time I went down there. The first few minutes in I was about to call him and yell at him because I wasted a bunch of money and my wife and kids were looking me like I can’t believe you made us do this. It got better though and I would recommend.

Also if you have kids into basketball the college basketball experience is awesome

Go to KC IN July to play fake golf?

Have you ever been to Top Golf?

Full wait staff with bar and food, plus the games you can play against each other are fun as hell. It’s a whole different vibe for a weekend getaway than playing a course.

There's an interactive exhibit in Shawnee where you can experience the thrills of staining a deck. I have a 100% off coupon. I can pm you the address if interested.
I think he said "fun" things, not staining your deck! Nice try though. LOL

One thing I will tell you is to be very careful about planning out where you're staying on the night of the fireworks. We made the mistake many years ago to go down there and see the fireworks. We stayed in a hotel about 2-3 miles away from the fireworks and it took us nearly 3 hours to go those 2-3 miles. KC traffic is usually easy but my god this was my worst traffic experience ever and I've been in some bad ones.

WWI Museum is amazing. Taking a stroll through Union Station is fun if you're the walking type.

In addition to the things listed here, the Nelson-Atkins is great, and it's free (minus the special exhibits.) But it's worth it to wander around and get out the heat for a bit, and it's super close to the Plaza. The zoo in KC is good-sized and great for kids, and nearby Betty Rae's has awesome ice cream. Also, if you like dim sum, the cart service dim sum at Bo Lings on the Plaza is actually decent, though I imagine it will only be open for service on Saturday and not on the 4th. Have a great time!
