A player can always claim a family hardship situation and get around many of the transfer penalties. Even Bo - see Tyrone McKenzie. In addition, the guys who have played less than 2 years can always go the Juco route for a year. There are also appeals available if JP chooses not to approve a transfer.
All that said, most guys came here for playing time and that is still available at almost every position. The guys who do not have the talent to play at the next level might end up with bench time if they end up at a more competitive program. Guys with next level talent have no reason to look around - the NFL gets a good look at anybody from a BCS conference. If anything, leaving raises possible commitment and character questions that can significantly impact draft position.

The only ones we might have a chance of hanging on to is the ones that have already been redshirted. And possibly (and hopefully) Bo Williams because he just got here.

Which brings me to my next point: Don't. Smoke. Crack.
Maybe because they bleed cardinal and gold just as bad, if not worse than the rest of us. Maybe because they chose to come to Iowa State to provide us some entertainment and further their studies. I'm going to get ripped apart for this, but football is just a game. A lot of these young men are good students, and even better people for the community. 2-10 doesn't hurt as bad when they're all classy individuals who represent Iowa State University well. The reality is, we aren't going to recruit 22 guys plus special teams to play every snap next year. THAT'S why we keep each and every one of them that wants to be here.
