The Wave

I think it would be a nice gesture just this week. Nobody is suggesting making it a tradition. Just that these are Iowa kids. And belI've me I watched plentybof ISU games with my son sitting there and I promise you there are many others. So what's the harm in helping them keep the momentum going and the story in the news, it is a good thing. For many non common and severe disease U of I children's hospital is the only game in town. This isn't the University of Iowa's Hospital, it is our hospital too. We are a state University just like a Iowa and so I think it would be cool for aNY in Iowa to do it but they wern't asked we were. I would love it if they flashed a number we could text during the game to donate automatically or something too. But if you don't want to wave, dont.
I get what you're saying...but you're a little off on this one. The "story" has been about how cool the Hawkeyes are for turning and waving at the hospital perched directly above their stadium. And it IS a really cool thing for them to do. I've thought so since I first heard about it.

As to the rest of it, the hospital serves the greater community around the state and I'm grateful for the excellent care delivered there to members of my circle of family & friends. However, it is part of the University of Iowa. The fact that we are both regents institutions does not make their facilities and staff "ours" any more than they can lay claim to our vet school or any other unit/college that is part of the ISU system.

Yeah that wasn't what I was saying at all. I was say "our" as in Iowans, Iowa taxpayers etc. just as Iowa State is theirs. Now, sorry as a KC clone I guess it isn't yours and should have been more clear. Rereading what I wrote I can see how that read that way. I then answered his question of "should everyone do it" and that was why I brought up we we were a regent university. I don't think we need to do it but some hawkeye fans suggested it. And everyone just over analyzed it. It is kind of clunky and probably wouldn't work but all I am saying is great if it did. As those are our kids being treated there too.

Umm...just as a note of reference, I've lived in Iowa for 35 years now...KC doesn't always mean Kansas City...

I may be a little too invested in it. We were told our son had a 60% chance of not seeing his 10th birthday at blank and then told to sign up for make a wish. So we went to UIHC Childrens hospital and saw one of the best specialists in the country and he took us on a completly different path of treatment and I honestly believe if not for that place my 11 year old wouldn't be here right now, much less playing sports living a 100% normal life. So yeah, I don't get the petty rivalry crap when it comes to the childrens hospital.

I really DO understand that. I just don't think this is a matter of a petty rivalry. If Iowa was playing here, I'd say hell yeah, let's all wave at the camera. Because the connection is there. It's even in the name you just indicated "University of Iowa Childrens' hospital". That's why I advocated on the first page of this thread for the Hawkeye players to go out on Kinnick field and wave to the kids. To me, that makes more sense than ISU vs KU waving. :)

Sure, but their fan site suggested we do it to "fill in". I agree there may me better ways to do it but that isn't my point. I just think a lot of reactions, not yours but many on here have been petty and more about not wanting to give Iowa any credit or bring more attention to what they did.

That is a great story, thank goodness your son is doing well.

I don't think anyone is saying that the hospital is bad or that everyone shouldn't support it. I think most people think that it is a stupid thing to wave at a hospital that is 100 miles away when the TV crew likely wouldn't even cover. wouldn't

Hopefully nobody watch the ESPN2 propaganda that just aired during whatever game this is.

God bless sick children and their families everywhere. But the general consensus (not mine - but most in this thread) is Cyclones shouldn't be put out over anything to do with Iowa City regardless of the reasons.

But god bless all the families dealing with these horrific childhood illness even if you seek care in Iowa City and the Hawks get a positive story out of it.

Wave if you wanna wave. Move on.

It won't happen. Think about it. Not all fans are on Cyclone Fanatic to read about it. Not all fans are listening to Central Iowa Radio to hear about it. Not all fans use Twitter and such to read about it.

Unless announced at game it won't happen. Sure some will do it. But it will look half assed done.

Just like a Cardinal rules day. Or Golden rules day. We never do something as a whole fanbase.

You're making a pretty big deal out of something that won't help any sick kid one iota.
