Given the imminent extension of the B12 Tier 1 FB contract with ESPN, I would agree with you unless they are part of an expansion package with ND and/or FSU. Same deal with Louisville.
Is this correct? I have not read this anywhere.
If BYU actually wanted to join with no strings attached, like every other conference member, that might be a good thing for the conference (but for the distance).
Of all the schools that left the Big 12, I miss CU the most because of that trip to the Rockies. Man, I loved that trip.
If there's anything to this business about the ACC football schools, I think the Big 12 should plumb that ACC interest before giving any serious thought to BYU (which is apparently the plan).
But BYU? No concessions? That would be intriguing.
I just can't see the LDS giving up game forfeiture though. They do forfeit with some regularity, according to BYU posters. That woman's rugby forfeiture in 2010 was actually a NC game. They've forfeited in the CWS a couple times in their history, too.
Sure, a "best efforts" contract would be, to me, a reasonable point of common ground.
It's just that I don't think the LDS agrees with this assessment.
How many baseball weekends are there? Softball? How many basketball games hit on Sundays, especially for the women? Do sports other than football count? Do women's sports count?
The Louisville board is all excited right now because their opening football game with Kentucky has been moved to Sunday, and now will be nationally televised by ESPN.
I think we are going to see a large number of posts like this as we approach the 20,000 post mark.
I would like to see Louisville added before BYU if the no play on Sunday is true. It really isn't fair to the entire conference as it may cost a team a chance at being on TV. If BYU dropped the no Sunday play thing, I would be warmer to them joining.
Unless your BYU and you don't want ANY of your athletes playing on Sundays. Nobody is looking to add BYU for the women's softball team, but that doesn't mean it's not a potential dealbreaker if the Big 12 can't manage to not schedule them on Sundays.
I know I'm gonna get blasted for this (it'll create more instability blah blah blah), but I always liked the idea of a BYU - Notre Dame package deal. BYU football only & Notre Dame all other sports on the condition they schedule a rotating home & away football series with 3 Big XII teams every couple years. Throw in Louisville and we're back to twelve (+1) teams. I'd love to see ND in Jack Trice. You may say I'm a dreamer...
An equal deal-breaker with BYU is/was their insistence to keep their ESPN TV deal for home FB games, which guarantees at least three of those home games be on ABC/ESPN. That deal also grants BYU the rights to the games that ABC/ESPN doesn't pick up.

There appears to be NO chance that BYU will drop the issue of playing on Sunday. That seems to be a core principal, and one not to be compromised. The Big XII's attention from here on out will be east.

In all seriousness....if the Big 12 could pull Clemson/FSU, that would be ideal for the Big 12, and it would drive a wedge in the ACC - something I'd like to see for the Big Ten's sake.
