I'm a casual fan of MLB and was wondering if there is a pitcher who can break the 100-mph barrier?

It seems every game I watch, I've never seen the speed counter get above 97/98.

In one of Stephen Strasburg's last games he threw 7 pitches at 100 mph or faster I believe.

I wanna say Bobby Jenks throws 3 digit gas too but I'm not 100% sure. Justin Verlander can throw hard as well.

OK, someone has to post this, so I'll be that guy:

Cubs rookie pitcher Andrew Cashner hit 100 against the White Sox and Paul Konerko depostited it in the left field bleachers.

I personally think some of these radar guns are inflated for TV. It makes better TV to flash 100 up there rather than 97. Even on a smaller scale it makes better TV to flash 91 up there instead of 88.

Here's something kinda interesting about Van Meter Iowan, Bob Feller - I knew the legend about his "100 mph" pitch, but didn't realize it was officially recorded:

"Feller once mentioned that he was clocked at 104 mph at Lincoln Park in Chicago. He also threw the second fastest pitch ever officially recorded, at 107.6 mph, in a game in 1946 at Griffith Stadium"

Depends where they're picking up the speed at. If you're picking it up 10 feet off the front of the mound, it's going to be 5ish mph faster than if you pick it up 10 feet in front of the plate. Pitches lose 8-10 mph between leaving the pitcher's hand and getting to the plate.

Justin Verlander used to be able to get his fastball up into the 100s - his fastball was wicked his rookie year.

Very true, but the radar guns I have used show both the velocity out of the hand and the ending velocity. They would be using the initial velocity, but I still find it hard to beleive that so many guys are throwing that hard.
