*** THE OFFICIAL MICHIGAN VS. ISU GAMEDAY THREAD ***

During the last few minutes, Scotty has been bringing the ball up the court and giving it up. STUPID take your best 3 pt shooter and take the ball out of his hands when we need someone to hit a shot. Allen hit a couple but still ... HORRIBLE COACHING

my GOD christopherson. I don't give a **** that it's 4 seconds left. He was wide open and doesn't take the 3 to pass it off to a guy who couldn't get a shot off in time? the hell?

You don't need to press for 40 minutes, but you have to throw intense pressure like this in throughout the game, especially when half-court offense is stalling (which seems to be a lot of the time).

Don't just wait until you're down double digits with 3:30 left.

How ironic is it that last shot is Scottie passing on an open to pass it to Allen who misses a three attempt.

time to get ready for next year...this team won't go 11-7 in conference which it will take to go to the dance..Clyburn and Lucious need as many reps as possible

Before the last 2 garbage time 3's for Allen, he was shooting 2-15 for the game, for a sweltering 13% for the game. For the game, Allen, Ejim, and Babb ended up 6-33, for 18%.

I tell you what guys, we might actually be a good team if we always play like we are down by 10 with 2 minutes left in the game. Hustle, intensity, and defensive pressure.

Good effort and resolve coming back in the 2nd half. Man Royce really showed what type of player he can be today, he was fun to watch. Way to keep improving Cyclones!

Re: Are we patient to allow Hoiberg to learn on the job?

Yes. I don't think we hire him if we are not going to give him a chance. I think the expectations were too high going in this year. All of that and we still would have had a chance against a ranked team if we shot well (6 for 27 from 3 will not happen much with these shooters).

We don't have the most important position on the court set (PG). The PG sets the tempo of the game, gets the offense started smoothly (which is the under appreciated part of the job), and tries to disrupt the flow of the opposition offense. We are doing none of those things well which is causing us to play the other team's tempo every game.

We also have no true center so it causing Royce to play out of position, and Ejim is out of position too, so 3 of our five starters are playing our of position. White has never had to defend a collegiate level center (it is not like we have had any to practice against) so you have to give him some time to learn to play defense.

All of these issues have caused the team to not have a good identity and many of the players have not discovered their roles yet.

Yes the team would win a lot of games if every game was a pick up game so every one out there is going mad saying it is bad coaching. If the team can discover an identity and have the players discover their roles it could still be awesome - please give it some time. If not then we are what all of the experts thought we would be - a bottom of the barrel big 12 team with a lot of great pieces to a great team, but still missing some big parts.

We are still headed the right direction - it wasn't going to happen overnight.

We should be running this full court press in the first half. We have the right athletes to do it.

So true.

I agree with these announcers. We don't have a PG, everyone knows that. So the announcers believe we need to run as often as possible to be effective. I agree. And the easiest way to run is to get steals. Steals come from effort and pressure. We need to play like we have the last 5 minutes for the entire game. If guys get winded, then put in someone else. We have the depth. Pressure, pressure, pressure. Get fast breaks and easy opporunities. Play everyone if you need to when guys get tired. Up tempo all the time. Bring Hilton Magic basketball back Fred!!

As for Royce White... he will be as good as he wants to be. I've been hard on him, but today he's been a beast. He can do this every game IMO. In fact, he can even be better than he was today IMO, and he was great today. At times he can do whatever he wants to. I think he can do that almost all game if he puts his mind to it.

What Royce has done great today that he hasn't been doing is playing like the point forward that he is. He has taken his man off the dribble today, penetrated, and then when help came, he dished it out to our open shooters, whereas in past games he's taken it to the hoop through the help defender and has gotten charges. Our offense really needs to go through him in every half court set IMO. He's our best PG right now, if he plays like he did today. He got our shooters a lot of open 3's, they just didn't make them today.

Our defense still needs a lot of work, but most of that is just effort. Fred needs to get on these guys. And if they don't want to play defense, then find someone on the bench that will.

I felt better about our performance today, although we still have a LONG ways to go. If Royce took the game over against UNI like he did today, we win that game IMO.

It's been evident all year. If you are athletic enough and play good enough defense, you don't slow it down. Look at teams like Kentucky. They don't ******* slow it down, they keep pushing the ball and forcing turnovers until the other team cant keep up anymore.

Have we shown at any point this year that we can play good enough defense to do this? It's one thing to come back on a team when they are up 18 with three minutes to go, it's natural for them to let up. I don't think we'd have the same result with our press if the outcome was still in doubt.
