The infamous holding call

FIFY.

The Iowa game was defined by ISU being inept when it mattered throughout the game.

Hopefully it gets better so we're not looking at a season of missed opportunity.
I completely agree with this.. The "holding" call was not good, but we would've had the ball with around a minute and a half left, and Purdy and Iowa State's offense had moved the ball on Iowa all game long. We should've been able to get into field goal range with that amount of time and also a timeout left. We obviously didn't because we had the worst possible thing that could happen on that punt play happen.

The things we've been poor at this season are all correctable. We've rarely missed assignments on defense, our run and pass game have been fine and have been fine against a great defense and a solid defense. Coach Campbell has gotten his teams to progress greatly from the beginning to the end of seasons and I think we're better now than we have been in the last two seasons at this point in the year.

We didn't have a timeout left. The infamous phantom holding call doesn't occur and we're running down the clock and kicking a short game winner

Ah okay I thought we did.. And I understand that but we still had an opportunity and we screwed it up big time. If we screwed up an easy punt like that, my confidence level of making that winning field goal is not very high. Before that holding debacle we dropped an interception in the end zone that would've essentially iced the game.. It should've never even gotten to the point where the refs were brought into things.

All these "what ifs...." Let's not overlook the fact Purdy is 54 out of 75 (72%) with no interceptions. He is as good or better than last year. If we can clean up some of our own mistakes, this team should win a lot of games yet, regardless of any officiating errors.
And he's only starting his sophomore year...

He's not wrong....replay was on last night on FSN and just for example on the 3rd and 8 on the drive that ISU got their last field goal, Purdy had to adjust and his timing of the throw was off because of #94 coming around the end and making that happen. Not sure if that counted as a hurry or not but it impacted the play. This seemed to happen quite a bit.

yeah, credit Iowa because they made a great defensive stand there. Purdy had to throw off of his back foot because of the pressure and that caused the ball to sail to high for Kolar, who was open, to get it. We have had incredible problems trying to get TDs on Iowa in the redzone the past couple of years. If we don't strike from far away, it seems like a TD is impossible. If we are to beat Iowa next year, we need to figure out how to score td's in the red zone.

While I do agree we've struggled to score in the redzone against them, and obviously scoring that TD would've helped. All we needed was a field goal to win this game. The glaring issue that was also an issue in the UNI game was messing up / stalling out around the 35-40 yard line of our opponents. We've taken away opportunities to reach the redzone because of questionable play calling, penalties, a fumble, etc.

but we got the FG on that drive and we lost because Iowa responded with a FG of their own. So we did actually need the TD

Kene looked good IMO. Didn't run much though considering we could pass all over your secondary (yeah I know third string Riley Moss was out and that Merriweather guy Phil Parker was "concerned" about going into the season)
You forgot to add in Brents and Hankins

Right I'm agreeing. In retrospect we needed that TD, but was that our only time in the red zone? I'd like to see if it was because I know we stalled out multiple times in a bad area of the field. I think the first drive of the game it was 4th and 1 or 2 at Iowa's 40-some yard line and we had a false start penalty and we had to punt. We had Purdy's fumble on Iowa's 30 yard line. Purdy slipped and fell on a drive that we were rolling on and I believe that was the same drive we ended up turning it over on downs. I believe there may have been a couple other times when we crossed the 50 but weren't able to get close enough for a field goal.

It isn’t about the wins. It’s about the eye test. No one just looks at the standings, they watch the games. It’s obvious who was better.

Different styles, the better teams on any given game do not make mistakes. Sorry but that is 100% true. Disciplined teams are better than undisciplined teams, especially when the score indicates it at the end.

I can’t find a stat for undisciplined. I did find one called YPP tho.

ISU has their **** together on several drives and they'd be up 2 TDs and it's a non factor.

Trolling is one thing. Trolling using refs for excuses is just a bad look.

That absolutely is not true. Like 10 years ago Iowa State beat Nebraska 9-7 when Nebraska had 8 turnovers. Nebraska went to the Big 12 Title game and lost by 1 point to Texas. You can be more disciplined and lose the game. Army was more disciplined than Michigan 2 weeks ago, but lost.

Then I guess you just don't know your football. How about turnover margin, redzone efficiency, time of possession, 3rd down and 4th down conversion percentages, field positions?...... I could go on and on, but it will not change your mind. You are set in your ways.

People..Non ISU people who are experts at this game of football have already chimed in and not a single one that I’ve seen has said that it was holding..

Meeker initially correctly blocks Iowa DE and Knipfle slides over and pushes Iowa DE to ground while meeker slips and falls at same time. If you truly open your eyes and watch, Knipfle engages with Meeker nearly at the point of attack.. you can clearly see on the replay as Iowa DE begins falling Meekers hands aren’t even on the Iowa DE.

Side note..The play before was isu #63 hands to the face PF flag.. This was a terrible call. Watch the replay..Unless I’m completely missing some mysterious angle..
