The infamous holding call

Kinda like the one against Scates earlier in the game then that negated what would have been a big 20+ yard gain?

See how this can go round and round?

Oh I agree. Football has so many subjective calls that you could breakdown every single play and find penalties. Some are just more obvious than others. I thought the Beyer one was clear PI whereas the Scates one was more 50/50.

I didn't watch you guys much during conference play last year, but Purdy is confusing to me.
He was amazing in conference play.
Against Drake? Not so hot.
Against Washington State? God awful.
Against UNI? Pedestrian.
Against Iowa? Better but made crucial mistakes - that was a winnable game against Iowa's struggling secondary.

Why is he so good vs conference opponents but not good vs anybody else? The sample size is getting too big to ignore. Either he's been unlucky 4 straight times, or maybe big 12 defenses make average players look good.

Purdy was God awful vs Washington St but his game against Washington St he was much better statistically than Stanley all of last year? Yikes

Go look at the teams he faced towards the end of the season. Drake, KSU, Baylor, Kansas, and Texas Tech. Not exactly murderers row! Against Texas he was bad, very very bad. We tend to let players slide on a game or two however we generally dont take into account the defenses played when kids do well.

This year will tell us more about Purdy. I have a feeling hes going to look awfully good for the next month and a half (may struggle against TCU, I'm still figuring that team out) and then come November when Texas and OU hit the schedule we will see how good he really is.

This happens with QBs everywhere by the way. At Iowa, Stanley can look like a stud one game, then like a JV player the next. That guy pisses his pants against Wisconsin every single year!

Against Washington State? God awful. Ummm might want to try that again
Against UNI? Pedestrian. Literally played as scripted
Against Iowa? Better but made crucial mistakes - outplayed the fat one and I'm not going to beat him up for fumbling on a wet sloppy day. If we don't drop two INT's Iowa fans would have sacrificed chunkles by now.

You might want to sit a couple plays out, bud.

Interesting....so if it is the "Big 12 Defenses" hill you are wanting to die on, please go on to explain why other successful quarterbacks have massive success again other conferences defenses, like say, Kyler Murry, Pat Mahomes, Mason Rudolph, Baker Mayfield, and now Jalen Hurts

I think Purdy will look great against OU, their defense is still a wet paper bag in my opinion. Texas and TCU will be the big tests for sure

The contact wasn't as 'hard' on Scates, but the defender was early and did hit him, still fits within the requirements of PI.

Are you guys worried about a let down against Louisiana-Monroe after Game-day/Cy-Hawk hype? Not trolling....I'm glad the Hawks have a bye this week.

I would be if I were them since Matt Campbell doesn't prepare his team for non conference games. King of a crazy strategy since there are only 12 games on the schedule.

I think you'll see it pay off in a very tough Big 12

A little bit, but not UNI or Drake type performances.

I don't think we'll see a 54-0 type blowout. I think that is also partially due to my theory* regarding the staff using cupcakes as virtual scrimmages.

*emphasis on my theory.

I want a 75°F and sunny day, with a 60 point win over an inferior opponent. I want to see Re-al Mitchell then Kolar as QB.

That shouldn't be too much to ask should it? It's been a while since we've had a day like that.

Well I was responding to the poster who said Purdy was God awful vs Washington St. I then brought up Purdy's stats that game vs Stanley all year. I don't think anyone said Stanley was God awful vs Mississippi State

I like Brock Purdy. He's a great young QB but you keep dredging up Passer Rating vs Quarter Back Rating. Nearly every stat person out there would agree that QBR is a way better measure of a QBs performance. For the year last year both QBs were actually very close in QBR with Purdy's being slightly higher but not by much.
