The Fran fade

After reading that HR thread, I would say Iowa fans are penciling in Kris Murray as B1G player of the year and 1st team AA, but they skipped the pencil and went right to pen.
They think he is a shoo in for top 10 lottery pick, just like Keegan.
Time will tell.

There’s a possibility that Kris is a year away from Keegan and can produce like Keegan did last year, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I think there’s a good chance he’s drafted next year I just don’t believe he’ll be one of the best CBB players.

Sounds like a polka band.

@GoHawks next season will be interesting. There were lots of ISU fans on CF that legit struggled with last season and will be all over TJ when ISU loses a non-conference game. That will be fun.

Personally I'll stay with where I was last year--NIT would be good considering unknowns, NCAA would be fantastic like it always should be.
I could see Iowa just on outside too which would be disappointing considering I think they could be a top 25 type team if they would of landed 1 impact player in the portal

I feel Kris will be a 17 and 7 type of player. Not nearly as dominant as Keegan was, but then again who could be?

It’s certainly not unreasonable to think he could be a first or second team All B10 player. Id say 17-18 a game is not out of the question either. It’ll be interesting to see how the shot volumes will be distributed between him and Patrick.

The schedule is quite a bit more tough this year for Iowa. Not the best timing as this years team seemingly lacks proven top tier talent. I think they need everything to break right to be on the right side of the bubble.

Sandfort and Perkins will be the keys imo. They need to be at or near double digit scorers.

Figured it would come down to your Swiss Army knife putting up 8-10 per game to take the best off KM.
I'd be happy with 6,4,and 4 from him which is above his career averages. I hope Fran keeps him at about 15 to 20 minutes again

He seems likely to be less efficient than Keegan, even if he does put up numbers. I could be wrong, but I won't have a problem eating crow if I have to about it, just calling it how I see it.

Obviously Iowa state has a lot to be excited for in 2023-24 but what's everyone's early expectations for next year? I kinda think of both as 8 seed to bubble teams but I might be overselling if anything with both. I think both could have PG issues most notably
It is difficult as an ISU fan to witness what happened in 2021-22 and try to make heads or tails out of what could happen this upcoming season. Tj took the term "doing more with less" to a nearly unprecedented level. Sweet 16 is everyone's most recent memory of the team, and it's conveniently easy to forget that they really struggled at times with conference opponents, granted the needless caveat to mention that the Big 12 was and has been the highest echelon of the sport for some time now.

I don't think it's crazy to say that the upcoming version of the Iowa State men's team is more talented on paper than the past season's version. What will be interesting to see play out is how cohesive it can be. Last year's team united behind the idea that everyone counted them out from the get go. That 'chip' won't be there this year, at least not to the same level.

I do think the talent is there to get back to the ncaa tournament, and I am comfortable enough to predict that they do. Seeding wise, an 8 seems like a safe pick. I could see them anywhere from 7-11. It seems like they will susceptible to scoring droughts again and may still struggle to shoot it. Dealing with the unknown at the PG position too, but while Tyrese Hunter was a great freshman player for us, his inefficiencies held the team back at times. I am not ready to punt that position and say Iowa State will be worse there in 22-23. I am excited about our front court, and think it could end up being the best defensively, possibly in school history.

Iowa is most likely in the same boat. They have some talent on paper, but there is a need to see and understand how it will materialize before making a comfortable prediction. Kris Murray is the obvious stud that the offense will run through, but how good the ancillary pieces are will determine the success of the season. If things click on all cylinders and Sandfort and Perkins have upped their game semi significantly, I could see the hawks back in the tournament no question. I could even see them seeded higher than Iowa State, simply because of how the selection committee favors Big 10 teams, and due to how successful I think Iowa can be next year in what appears to be another rendition of a watered down Big 10.

Regardless though, Iowa will have obvious flaws and won't be unlike recent years where they are very soft defensively, especially inside, and lack athleticism to match up with the elite teams. It will come down to how well they can keep up with teams on the offensive end. Seed prediction 6 if everything clicks, to as low as 11, but I do think they'll be in the field.

Goes to show you about the state of their men's program when these are the first three threads in the basketball forum on HR. Albeit, it is just a forum on Iowa basketball as it doesn't specify men's or women's.
