The Fran fade

We talked about it in another bball thread. Nice player. Helps when your dad played there. Today was a classic recruiting day for Iowa : get a solid player who grew up liking Iowa and dad played there, and get a white PG who no other P5 school offered.

Seems like Groundhog Day in Iowa City every year. Same exact team. Rinse and repeat

You must be too young to remember the whole Larry Eustachy saga. Students and fans showing support to Larry by hanging out on his front yard. Wanting him to stay as coach even though he's been partying with students, drinking on the sidelines, and belittling some players.
lol students... the large majority of the Iowa State fan base wanted Larry canned after all of that came out.

Personally, I thought he should be suspended and ordered into completing rehab before returning to his position as coach. I think I was in the minority, though.

Yeah and I kind of leaned that way at first but at the end of the day there was just WAY too much going on there.
There WAS a lot going on there - most of it attributable to his drinking. The other factor was the optics of the swift canning vs "get some help with your alcoholism and we'll talk". No one wanted the job after the ham-fisted way that BVDV handled it, and we ended up with Morgan.

I was pissed at the time but now I agree with that. He clearly needed help. The problem is that people with addiction problems need to chose to accept the help, not just go through the motions, in order to get real healing. I’m glad he appears to be sober now.

I think he has had lapses, but he does have an underlying aggressive personality. The alcohol amplified it.

Hawks get Georgia Tech at home in the acc/big 10. Should be winnable, UNC/Indiana looks to be the big matchup. I'm not totally sold on Indiana yet.

GaTech was HORRIFIC last year. Torvick has them barely inside the top 100 this year.. That'd be a Q3 game. Right up Fran's alley

To be fair, it doesn't sound like was easy to play for even after he got clean...

Most years that's fair but next year looks like a very competitive non conference schedule. Last year was unique in that we started slow and improved later usually its opposite with Fran. Need to get off to a good start next year
