The Fran fade

Do you think Gary Barta has been a good athletics director?

No, not even with a Top 25 football program, Men's Bball getting a #2 seed, Wbball in solid standing, Wrestling program poised to win a National Title and baseball in good shape.

If Kirk retires today does he make the Hall of Fame?
And again Fran hasn't surpassed Wayne Morgan for post season success yet.

I said I don't think he is a good AD, despite the current success of the programs. He is a walking PR blunder.

Larry's best team won regular and conference championships, 2 seed, elite eight, #3 final raining.

Need final four or nc game to pass.
To be honest Larry's run thru the post season that year until MSU was really impressive. ISU looked great in all those games.

That was a great team. ISU/MSU should have been for the NC and not for a Final Four berth.

There's some gigantic tone deafness in the athletic department that comes from the top down and not to drag this out all damn day but Iowa could do 10x better than him.
I don't think he's really responsible for most of the success you've mentioned. Did he hire Brands, Bluder, or Ferentz?

Hiring isn't easy. Iowa fans weren't exactly enamored with finding out about Fran's contract extension a few years ago when the Register reported it.

If an ISU team ever makes a final four it'll probably still be a debate vs that team for best team.

They dropped an early fluke game to Drake so really it was only 3 losses between that slow start and the MSU loss. Talking heads all had them losing to ucla and it was a laugher, not even close.

Team sort of came out of nowhere because tinsley was an unknown juco and the early Drake loss. Took until after mid season for the rankings to wake up to it.

With Garza's play last year Iowa got that expectation right away this year.

Post Garza there are still questions about Fran's recruiting. He hit on Aaron white and Garza in a big way as out of state finds but kind of crazy how the rest of the teams have always been baked in iowa fans or legacy/family.

Pencilling in recruiting success off a huge season or two can be a miss. As a younger ISU fan I thought our '00 season would get us elite recruiting, it wasn't horrible but it really wasn't a jump up.

Tinsley was a complete unknown and a huge part of that team. Fizer was the known commodity at the time and Horton was a very good player too. If they beat MSU, I think they would have won it all.

That's the key to this all. Get a couple studs Tinsley/Fizer, JoeW/Luka, surround them with good players Rancik/Johnson/Shirley, Jorbo/CJ/Keegan.
The tough part is reloading and coaching that style of team. Fran 2-3 years from now will show us how good he really is.

Did you just call Bohannon good? Ignore button still works right?

I think he fits into that offense system perimeter wise but he doesn't do much else. His numbers really haven't changed all that much since his freshman year so if we are being told Fran's a good coach that's concerning.

TLDR Bohannon sucks
