The Fran fade

What does postseason have to do with the regular season? I specifically said the greatest regular season, which is how you earn a #2 seed.

So you are basing this success only on where they are seeded?

I will continue to base it on the year that we the won the conference title and tournament? That is the true consistent measurement.

Iowa has arguably most experienced team in the NCAA...Has the NPOY and back to back BIG POY. They also have another NBA player in JW (guessing he goes this year btw).

It is a year of Covid with top teams like Michigan and Baylor having to take almost a month off during season bc of COVID and both those teams were straight rolling. Duke, KY are not in NCAA for first time in like a century and UNC is avg.

If ever there is a year to advance in NCAA it is this year...Will prob never have another year like this again..Given all that Iowa must advance to at least Sweet 16 or it is a massive failure.

Totally agree, if this team can't make it to the Sweet 16, I will be massively disappointed. From that point it is all about matchups really. An Elite 8 would be awesome, but if you aren't a blue blood to just expect an Elite 8 is stupid if you ask me.

I watched the MW after that and I think they said most of the SDSU staters are seniors so keep an eye out for them too.

They are capable/have the players to.
I think with how much they've played together over the years I wouldn't want to bet against them unless the line is crazy.
Committee can do them a solid by placing them in the same bracket with a 3 like Villanova, who will be nothing but upset fodder. Iowa would probably end up playing a 7 or 10 seed in the sweet 16 if that scenario would play out

Let's not forget that it's also earned by how other teams that normally get those seeds do. For example, Duke and North Caroina are nearly a perennial #1/#2 seed that are not standing in Iowas way this season.

Also, this is one of they greatest seasons Iowa has ever had and you could not get to your conference title game, especially knowing Michigan got knocked out. LOL. Good luck with that 2 seed.

Even if Iowa reaches the Elite 8, that’s not a better year than the 99–00 team. 32-5 and regular season champs.

Their season is on par with the 2014-2015 Cyclones team that went 22-8 in the regular season and got 2nd in the conference.

History says Iowa will not make it past the round of 32. They've only done that one time since the mid 1980's.

Aside from the fact that college basketball is full of garbage teams compared to back then sure. Our Elite 8 team would have been a 1 seed easily in this year. Seriously look at some of the records that are going to get top 3 seeds in the tournament.

Are elite 8 team would have been a 1 seed most years.....the selection committee goofed up and 3/4 1 seeds were out early that year

I was watching the game with a couple hawkeye friends. They thought it was clean even after the replays. clearly a foul. The refs in the game were just fine.

Stronger, faster teams that play with the Illini's effort are going to tend to get the benefit of the calls. JBo is not a true PG in my view. It is why Iowa struggles against teams with great guard play.

Iowa has a very good team. Other than JBo, CFM a CM they have a likable team. Ignore the hawk fans who complain about the officials. Try to watch them in the 1st maybe 2nd or even 3rd rounds. There some kids worth pulling for.

I am not hearing much out of the hok fanbase supporting Fran. Things are starting smell much like Tom Davis' end. To be clear, Davis could coach circles around Fran but he was let go even though he had some success - just couldn't win the national title Iowa deserved. Seems Fran is in the same place - has a NPOY on the squad and if you listen to hok fans, a couple of NBA players. Yet all signs point to 1, maybe 2 wins in the tourney. Is the thought they will let Fran coach until Patrick graduates regardless?

From my experience, most hawk fans are wanting a change in coaches. we feel good about the current roster and the young talent on the team. Dr. Tom was easy to like. CFM is not as easy for me to like, but his players seem to love him.

i personally don't think this hawkeye team has NBA talent. LG benefits greatly from the one and done era. He also benefits greatly from CFM playing his son CM so many minutes. CM does feed the ball to LG very well, but he plays too much in my view.

I think your take is pretty much spot on though.

If I were an Iowa fan I would be a little upset that my players were constantly trying to pick fights on twitter. Iowa seems to have a history of not doing well against physical teams and instead of playing tough they would rather complain to the refs the entire game...and then after on twitter.
