The Cubs are loaded with young cost controlled talent for years to come. They have plenty of time to get the pitching they need. This was never supposed to be "the year". If they still don't have a better rotation 2 or 3 years from now then you can say the plan was a bust.
They need depth and experience more than anything else. Their pitching isnt terrible by any means.

While I agree with the opinions from Cubs fans that the actual intent to go for it all comes in a year or two, if the Cards didn't have such a big lead on the division and and instead the Cubs were in first place, I think Cubs fans would be claiming that this is indeed the year...

Nah. With such a young team, I would expect a second half collapse of some sort (still will be surprised if the Cubs make the playoffs this season). No way I would want the Cubs making trades this year in an attempt to address a weak spot to go for it all (like Oakland last year). The Cubs have come this far with patience, so it's best to ride this out and follow the plan.
So is it next year or the year after that is actually supposed to be the year? Because I want to see if Cubs fans say the same things as they are this year if the team doesn't happen to actually win the division and/or make the playoffs the year that they're supposed to according to fans. So, in an alternate reality where things are totally different Cubs fans would feel differently....Sure.
