The Flaw in the Cubs Rebuilding 'Plan'

The Cubs are loaded with young cost controlled talent for years to come. They have plenty of time to get the pitching they need. This was never supposed to be "the year". If they still don't have a better rotation 2 or 3 years from now then you can say the plan was a bust.

The flaw in that article is thinking the Cubs expected to contend for a title this year. They got a long window to compete that is just beginning to open.

Agree, the Cubs have the bats and fielding to compete in a year or two. The pitching wouldn't scare my mom.

They need depth and experience more than anything else. Their pitching isnt terrible by any means.

Right,It's been their offense that's been letting them down lately. Their bullpen has been great the last month.

While I agree with the opinions from Cubs fans that the actual intent to go for it all comes in a year or two, if the Cards didn't have such a big lead on the division and and instead the Cubs were in first place, I think Cubs fans would be claiming that this is indeed the year...

So, in an alternate reality where things are totally different Cubs fans would feel differently....Sure.

Nah. With such a young team, I would expect a second half collapse of some sort (still will be surprised if the Cubs make the playoffs this season). No way I would want the Cubs making trades this year in an attempt to address a weak spot to go for it all (like Oakland last year). The Cubs have come this far with patience, so it's best to ride this out and follow the plan.

And regardless of some fans think "this is the Cubs year", the front office has said multiple times they see 2019-2020 as the peak for the current group of young guys. Starting pitching is obviously the biggest need going forward, but they have means to address that.

No one expected them to compete this year outside of some crazy fans. But the fact that they are in the playoff hunt may change their plans.

But the Cubs are 5th in the NL in ERA and 2nd in BAA. And that's with a complete dog **** month of May from the bullpen. So its not like their pitching is horrible...

Add David Price next year plus more experience for all of their young guys. The Cubs will be just fine.

So is it next year or the year after that is actually supposed to be the year? Because I want to see if Cubs fans say the same things as they are this year if the team doesn't happen to actually win the division and/or make the playoffs the year that they're supposed to according to fans.
