The Expanse premiers on SyFy tonight with episode #2 on Tuesday.

I am a sucker for sci-fi so watched #1 last night on Comcast Demand. Also streamed the little 3 minute intro/backgrounds videos to get a better picture of the setting.

Looks like it might be pretty good space opera. The sets and effects stuff is WAY past what you see in most scifi TV. I do mean WAY, this isn't Dark Matter or Killjoys on the cheap stuff, this is movie theater quality. I am probably hooked.

I have not read the books.

Looking forward to it. Been a while since they've come close to the success of BSG.

I had someone suggest it to me based on my love of Firefly. Probably won't be quite the same, but worth a watch.

Just finished first episode. Pretty killer so far. I'm definitely going to watch more.

Note: apparently they haven't solved the problem of cracked cell phone screens yet.

Set to record. I thought Ascension was well done, so I'm looking forward to it. Had no idea it's based on books.

Have it set to record. I saw the preview to it and it looked good so I am going to give it a shot. When I saw that it said Game of Thrones is space I was hooked. I love Game of Thrones and it looked like it just Sci-Fi. We shall see.

The books are really good, and well set up to turn into a TV series. I watched the pilot online - I was impressed with it, you can tell they really put a lot of budget into this and want this to be the next BSG. Acting seemed solid too. Can't wait to watch the 2nd one Tuesday.

Regarding SyFy - I was bummed that Defiance wasn't renewed, the 3rd season was the best but I think by then they just didn't have much of an audience. I liked Dark Matter for what it is, but I am really pumped to see what SyFy does with the book series they are adapting this year - Expanse, the Magicians, and Childhood's End. Most excited about the Expanse, we are way overdue for a good space opera!

I've read the books too and really enjoyed them, although the second one was a little too similar to the first in my opinion. Very happy that they seem to be matching the tone of the books as well as putting enough money behind it that it doesn't come across as hokey.

I've heard the Game of Thrones in space descriptor for it too and I never really got that feeling from it. I'd say if that's what you're expecting you will be disappointed. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Just set it to record after reading this thread. I need a new show now that Falling SKies in done

The fact that I actually watched Falling Skies proves the Boxstercy idiom that "Bad sci-fi is better than no sci-fi at all."

They lost us somewhere in all of the Lexi junk, but we kept recording and then decided just to watch the last two. Seems like we didn't miss much.

Husband watched The Expanse tonight, I had stuff to do but will probably try to watch it sooner or later.

I watched 2 and 3 last night (3 and 4 are now available on demand). Loving this show. And having read the books, I know this season should just keep getting better.

The Lexi season is where Falling Skies jumped the shark. That whole season was awful, followed by another bad season. The finale was just as bad as Dexter's. We only continued watching after having three great seasons, sufferred through season 4, then watched season 5 only since it was the final season.
