I agree that is why you foul leading by three points, but where was any advantageous time out in overtime as well? Coaches are supposed to coach, calm them down, make a play, but do something other, than like the rest of us, watch three minutes pass and go down by ten.
Maybe that's why all of those peeps were in a random bar and not on the sidelines coaching a Big 12 game. Just saying.
There's NO way in the world that Bill Self would answer that question tonight any other way, unless he's a complete and total d-bag. You really think he would come out and say, "Yeah, I definately would have fouled in that situation, I don't know what in the world Fred was thinking?".
Just look back at the ISU-Texas womens game last week. ISU had a 3 pt lead in that one too as time was expiring. And Texas' best player was allowed to shoot a game tying 3 to send that game into OT as well. Luckily, we were able to pull that one out in OT though.
The only difference in that situation was that she was left wide open somehow? At least KU's best shooter was guarded when he broke our back.
No actually he wasn't guarded, Babb and McGee misplayed that last screen. He went under the screen and gave him a look. That was the critical mistake.
And one of the ESPN announcers just said as much during the highlights/recap of the game.

Tell me how many times you have seen a College Team foul in that situation. I am sure it has been done, but I don't recall any. I think most coaches prefer to play it out. The kid made a lucky shot, it happens.

If we foul them on the put back, they have the chance to win in regulation. the other concern is you foul by mistake on a three point shot and it turns in to a 4 point play. This option is not automatic either or you would see it done more often.

McDermott fooled everyone. He was successful at UNI and is now kicking *** at Creighton. He is a good coach at the right school. ISU was not right for him. Self isnt an idiot. Hoiberg is already doing way better at ISU and he is getting national props, not just from Self.
Sure, but its also reasonable to expect players with the experience we have to know that and execute it without being told. You also give KU a chance to setup a play with a timeout there.
