Thad Matta - ISU Head Coach next year

And his transfers also have included,

Hallice Cook
Jordan Ashton
Ray Kosongo
Merril Holden
Darrell Bowie
Hans Braase
Jeff Beverly
Zoran Talley
Michael Jacobson
Caleb Grill
Prentiss Nixon

He doesn't have a good track record with transfers no matter how you want to spin it.
Okay, so Hallice had already transferred here. That was Hoiberg's guy. Ashton was brought on because we needed bodies and Hoiberg left Prohm zero time to recruit as well as no incoming recruits. Bowie was an okay get and was a big part of that Big 12 Tournament run. Although MJ isn't doing well this year he was a huge contributor last year. Caleb Grill didn't transfer and is only a freshman.

So, Ray, Holden, Braase, Beverley, Talley, Nixon are all true misses IMO.

Donovon Jackson, Shayok, Bolton, Mike Jacobson are hits, even if Mike isn't doing what he did last year.

That's not terrible. We also have Javahn Johnson who will be evaluated next season.

Your list isn't even accurate.

Cook transferred in under Fred.
Ashton was a roster filler due to Fred's late departure and I believe came as a walk-on.
Bowie and Talley were serviceable (when available in Talley's case). Jacobson is too, or at least was last year. Grill is a true fresham.

Nice try to make things look worse than they were though. You hate Prohm, we get it. At this point you are just beating a dead horse.

I just gotta get this off my chest, Norman Dale didn't run the picket fence. That play was all Shooter. So if he's not coming with Coach Dale, it's a hard pass for me.

Talley is somewhere in the area of Lewis where I watch and I understand there are limitations but I do not understand how you can't make that skillset work for more minutes when they are on such bad teams. Like, they were the only guys on the roster that could do what they were doing. Figure out how to make that useful.

My bad. I’ll remove Hallice Cook on the list so that it is accurate.

Talley had quite a few off the court issues last year which cut into his minutes. The year prior he actually showed a ton of promise.

IRRELEVANT TO THE PIPE DREAM WE ARE NOW HOPING TO LIVE.
I just find it funny that some don't think we will be better next year and think it'll be impossible when we literally went from the worst team in the conference, to conference tournament champs, a 6 seed in the NCAA tournament, and ranked 24th in the final AP poll.

Now, I do not expect us to make that jump again next year, but I do not think we will be a below .500 team again next season.

Again, next years talent and experience won’t be close to what it was last year. Prohm needs a lot of talent to cover up his coaching deficiencies, and when he doesn’t it spells trouble. I hope Blackwell is instantly ready, but expecting Foster, Walker, Dubar to be is probably wishful thinking. Also, we are going to need Jackson and Grill to make massive improvements next year, which is also probably wishful thinking.

Yeah, one guy. Yachlich is doing about what UT had been doing since theyve been a good defensive team for years. There wasn't going to be that stark improvement.

Are you also making the argument that the best strategists are already in the game and can't be found at a lower level? That seems unlikely. Yaklich, for example, was at Illinois State. If Prohm is going to show progress next year, 90% will rely on a functional defense which there is almost zero proof he or anyone on this staff can accomplish. He needs to go out and find someone who can run the defensive end at practice while Prohm and whoever else work on the offensive end. If he doesn't do that, he will fail. He may try that and fail but at the end of the day the argument that assistants can't make a dramatic impact, especially just at one end of the floor, is ridiculously wrong. You go out and you start looking at teams that are good defensively and you figure out why. Why is is Rhode Island a pretty good defensive team? Looks like probably their head coach is in his second year. Ok, who's next? Ball St. Now, Jame Whitford has been there awhile. Why is his defense all of a sudden much better? What a second, Ben Botts and Matt Crenshaw have been there for two years which coincides with this defensive improvement. Taking a quick look, it looks like there's a chance Botts, with a fairly strong resume for how young he is could have something to do with this. Let me call John Doe, who I know in that conference and see what he knows. I have a computer and a kenpom subscription. Prohm has contacts and he should be able to flesh out who can help him. That's a large part of his job. He like recruiting and he's fine at coaching offense. Throw a bunch of resources at what you don't know.

Again, Yaklich hasn't made Texas into some defensive juggernaut this past year. Texas hired Berry the prior year to help with the offense... how has that gone? But I would also argue the biggest problem isn't defense this year. The biggest problem is talent. Prohm has shown he can get the team to be a decent defensive team, they were actually doing really well last year before the team fell apart and still ended up in the top 50. Beilein himself said the biggest reason they were so good defensively is they had the guys with the ability and the desire to play defense. If he wants to fire someone to bring in a defensive specialist, that is fine but it isn't going to make one bit of difference if he doesn't have the guys that have the ability or desire to play defense. It seems like you think that if they just get a defensive assistant they will be good next year.
Ok I am looking at the top teams on Ken Pom. Yeah Ball State is so much better now than they were 2 years ago...

I am actually thinking it is likely Dubar might be the most ready.

Foster is 7'0" and a top 60 player in the nation.. He shoots it pretty well from the outside for his size too. I'm not saying he's going to be a freshman all-american but I think he definitely has a shot to make an impact right away.

We will also have bolton, Conditt, and Young back, as well as Javahn Johnson coming into his junior year who is 6'7". Yes Grill and Jackson have to make big improvements, but I'm assuming both will.

We're also going to be going for a high impact grad transfer / immediately eligible guy.

We will have young talent, some older talent that have been in the program, and a talented transfer. I think if we hit on the transfer end we will be solid.

So, while on the subject of coaches, anyone know what kind of advice David Hobbs is providing? Does he have tactical expertise or is he a big picture guy?
