Texas Tech gruesome leg injury

My dad always told me a story of his playing days growing up. Super small town Iowa in the 70’s that had a poorly maintained field. One of his buddies was on a break away touchdown and stepped in a hole. Bone poked right through the shin. Horrifying.

I wasn’t there, but we had a kid break his femur in a fb game in junior high. From the story’s I head, I wasn’t a good time for anyone that saw it or head him screaming. For some reason they couldn’t set it or do surgery, so he was in traction for 6 weeks. Rough way to learn that fb is a tough sport.

No interest in watching it, who was it. Anyone remember the RB Oakland? vs Minnesota MNF 20+ some years ago, leg broke backwards? I saw it live it was gruesome, I think he almost lost that leg, never played football again.
I remember Roger Craig hitting his own lineman for the 49ers. The bottom of his leg was spinning. Thank goodness that was before HDTV, --- Sorry, he did that to Krumrie (Bengals) - Super Bowl.

What city was this in? I was playing junior high football for Ames, we were out of town somewhere, and was right there when we had a guy do that. Was absolutely gnarly and he was just screaming in pain. Still remember it 20 years later.

It flashed on my twitter yesterday without me being ready...yuck.

BUT, anyone else ever surprised more of this doesn't happen given the size of the guys, piles/hits and impact football players have each play?

I'm expecting it every single time someone has their weight on one foot and is hit low.
