Terry Brands

some of you, (not all of you) are as short sided as they come. as for the one that said my son is only one wrestler> ( no duh sherlock ) i thought that their was an (s) on recruit. some of you might be naive but let me try to help you.

Most recruits from all over the country really DONTgo to a school just for the school - they go because of the COACH and or COACHES, it dont take a rocket scientist to know that. Just because some of you think that KJ sucks, does not mean that the wrestlers and the recruits feel the same as you do.
most of you guys that are running your mouths would not know a good coach if they stood in front of you and slapped you in the face. - you have know idea what is going on, you just look at the fallout right now and then you think you know what the problem is and how to fix it
Trust me, the wrestlers and the recruits no far more than we all do if things are as bad as you think then you will start seeing defections from wrestlers and recruits, then we will know how smart or how dumb some of you are

Brands isn't coming. Neither is Mark Manning or Rob Koll. Nebraska just got a new facility and Cornell's is one of the best. Plus Manning has Jordan Burroughs to live off of.

Heskett would come, but Pritzlaff isn't going to be his assistant. Pritzlaff isn't leaving his current job for anything less than a quality head coaching job which Iowa State is. Plus those two use to compete against each other and are not exactly best friends.

Other candidates

Matt Azevedo- ISU alumni, just took over at Drexel and probably doesn't want to leave after one year

Greg Randall- Boise State

Damion Hahn- Assistant at Cornell, Minnesota ties

Mark Branch- Wyoming, will be in line for the Oklahoma State job whenever it opens up

Pat Popolizio- Binghamton, was a finalist for the UNI job

Tom Borrelli- Central Michigan

Tim Flynn- Edinboro

Agree w/ all that you said and I should have clarified that what I wished for is not realistic. I am well aware of Joe's relationship w/ Pritzlaff. I also mentioned that even though there is no chance of the other guys leaving- you HAVE to ask= You just have to. Nearly every B1G job and Cornell are all better than ours. They will continue to be. Only Greg Randall and Branch are capeable off of that list of being successfull at ISU. This is now a tough job (and has been).

Honestly, we need to get rid of the mindset that we need to hire a Cyclone-we need to hire the best possible person. I believe it to be Pritzlaff fwiw.

Again, mere conjecture from me.

Terry Brands should take it....maybe that traitor Backes will follow him back to ISU and we will have a strength and conditioning guy with ISU roots. Plus, Brands would likely not work out and perhaps heskett would come take over as HC lol.

Most Cyclone fans won't agree with this, but the Brands boys grew up about 10 miles from me, while a lot may not like there style and their Hawkeye background-Having Terry in the corner would mean nothing but good things for this program. I'd agree to bury the hatchet on this one, it'd be a great hire

First off, I am always glad to see you on the various boards, and I am very excited to see John in an Iowa State singlet...

Second, I am so tired of the axes that people seem to be grinding here. NEIhawk is still ****** that Kevin Jackson came in, and had the temerity to call out the hawks when he got here...Hiis lips are firmly planted to mr no means no's whatever, and it is sad...He is even more ****** that now that the va techsters are gone, the hawks aren't the top dogs anymore.

Most of the rest of the bashers on here aren't even really wrestling fans, but since football and basketball were pretty positive this year, the natural inclination of Cyclone fans to feel that they need to complain about something has transferred to KJ.

Nevermind, that you get 9.9 scholarships, and Cael took all of the talented young guys with him...No that doesn't matter that we lost essentially TWO full recruiting classes, it's all KJ.

There are problems that have to be addressed. Pollard wants wrestling to win, but NOT at the expense of the top 3 sports. As someone said, the commitment to winning isn't there. That is why Cael left, because he went somewhere that he was given the total commitment. They also have a LOT more money than we do. They can afford to spend on programs way down the line. Plus men's bb is not a major sport in any way shape or form at Penn St. They need a men's winter sport to follow.

This! Cael was great at ISU as a wrestler and did a lot as coach but he really screwed us over when he left. He left pretty much nothing to build on. I think KJ will get it together soon. He has shown signs of being able to recruit pretty well and it will take time to get the program filled with high quality talent again.

Getting great talent is great. Who would argue with great kids coming the your university. But, nobody seems to want to answer the question; What wrestler has shown growth under Kevin Jackson and Yuro Washington? You can insult, make a silly comment how people wouldn't know a good coach, or you can blame it on Cael. Now, which wrestlers got better?

There have been two years with the current staff an this year had a ton of injuries. It is pretty much impossible to improve and train when you are hurt in any sport, but particularly one as physical as wrestling.

I saw Varner go from a 3-1 type wrestler to majors and tech falls. Reader became dominate. Sorenson was showing steady progress and credited kj. Besides them, there aren't that many wrestlers that Cael left to make a good comparison. The thin wrestling room from a lost year of recruits, almost two years, is what is holding the current guys back hard, IMO.

I'm not blaming Cael here, but there was a huge senior class, with a large scholly total, and not much left behind them so there just isn't many wrestlers to judge that off.

Yeah, all of the (very few) guys that Cael left have improved greatly under Jackson. The current redshirt freshman are his first recruiting class and we won't know until next season how well he and his staff can develop guys from scratch.

From scratch? How are other coaches taking their wrestlers, "from scratch" and doing so much with them. I guess that's another question.

You have to have a baseline before you can judge development. In this case, we've now seen how they've done as freshmen. So we'll see how they have developed as sophomores this winter.

I guess I'm using their baseline of prior performance. These weren't brand new wrestlers. They wrestled at high levels. When I see a freshman like Nico Megaludis do what he did at NCAA's and I see that we had the same if not better quality guys coming in, and regressing after spending 2 years here, it worries me. I think the buzz would quiet down if there was a plan to find a quality small guys coach. Then again we had Gallick and Bono and couldn't keep them.
