Terrible Call

I was in shock when I saw that play unfold. I was still hi fiving after the touchdown. I wouldnt have called that play, I would have kicked and made nebraska beat us. That being said, I am not mad at all at the play call. I get why they did it and am fine w/ it. Like everyone says, little more umph on the pass and we are celebrating one of the biggest wins in Cyclone history.

Hey Crazy,

Was Michigan States Fake against Notre Dame a few weeks back a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE call too.....?

Just wondering.....:twitcy:

So all of the other fake punts and field goals we have tried have been for the game? All of those fakes... if we don't get them we walk off the field because the game is over??? Not even remotely the same situation. That is what I just simply do not get about the people saying it was a great call. We lose if out BACKUP punter does not make a PASS into a stiff wind against the #9 team in the country.

It was a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE call. There is no way around it. You want to win. Line up the offense that has been successful all game long. Now, this does not mean that CPR is a bad coach at all, which is the way that the backers are taking all of the questioning of the call. It simply a HORRIBLE call. It makes it 10X worse that it was against NU. A win against them would have been sweet!!

Sure, a win would have been sweet. Rhoads put the pieces in the exact spot to win. The pieces did not execute.

Study the game of football and get back to us when you understand it better (see MSU vs Notre Dame as just one example). Nebraska was better equipped in the OT game. They are generally better than we are up front, deeper and their kicker is top-notch. Rhoads did the right thing.

And yes, the fakes at other times in the season were not at the end of the game. That does not mean they were just as important. In a close game, the simpleton fans can only look at the last play as the one that cost the game, ignoring the other 10-20 plays previously that impacted the game just as much, if not more.

In an OT game, there are countless plays that could have impacted the outcome either way. Get a clue.

Again, you would be on your knees for coach had this play been executed properly.

Live by what?? When is the last time we have won a game on a gimmick play with no time on the clock? So far I count CPR is 0-1 when trying that tactic.
You're right. We totally would have beaten Nebraska last year without our fake punt.

SO your saying that if that play would have worked (which it would have if it was even a half decent throw) you would still be on here ********

That was a 47 yard field goal. Hardly a given chip shot. This was a PAT!! It is not easy to pass from the 2 yard line, even for a great offense. That is a terrible comparision. A guaranteed tie vs a man I hope we can rely on our kicker to simply send us into another OT.

Mason Crosby
Nate Kaeding
Carson Wiggs
Sebastion Janikowski
Morten Andersen
Mike Holmgren
Hayden Fox
....just to name a few
Oh, so Kaeding quit playing in the NFL to play in the NCAA again? Pulling names over X amount of years and putting them all together is the dumbest argument you could have used.

Let me clarify. How many NCAA kickers in 2010 have only missed 1 50+ yard kicks when kicking at least 5?

Do you know the answer to your own question? I would say... probably not.

Give me a break... put the whole offense out there to go for 2?? You've got to be kidding me. I'd much rather have attempted the fake than watch the extra point get blocked or go wide right - history isn't exactly on our side when it comes to clutch kicks. Great, great call. CPR knew we had to put that game away right then and there and had the balls to call it. Good for him - I don't doubt it for a second.

Pretty sure he is joking looking at Hayden Fox (Coach) and Mike Holmgren.

Ben went out, defense was clearly wearing down.

CPR committed a travesty today. As bad as it is to say, it's true. Great job in preperation but he really stole this one from the players and the fans. The players played their hearts out, all game long. Good offense against the blackshirts! Good defense against a great offense, granted no TM but still.

Now... Where were AA, Arob, Jake, Money, Darius, Sims, LJ, Benton, AK, JK, and Lattimer when the game was decided?? Oh yeah they were standing on the sidelines watching all of their hard work p***** down the drain by allowing a BACKUP punter to decide the game.

Come on coach!! Let your playmakers decide this game. This was the last time we might EVER play NU and we COULD have won. Just a travesty. Let the players decide the freaking game. I feel so bad that the players are not able to celebrate their work today.

I'm torn on the last call. I like the fact that CPR was willing to go for the win there. But I just don't know that it was the best call to rely on Daniel Kuehl to make the play to win the game. I understand that the element of surprise is a huge factor in this instance, but I still think I would rather we lined up with our offensive unit for the two point conversion. If we knew we were going to go for the win, then tell the O before their possession in OT that YOU GUYS are going to punch this into the end zone and we are going to leave YOU GUYS out on the field to gain 2 yards, score 2 pts and win this game. I'd rather the ball was in AA or A-Rob's hands with the outcome of the game on the line. That's not meant to be a knock on Kuehl or CPR for making the decision. It just seems like common sense to me.
