Ted Lasso

Uh, were these people specifically whining about the show being “woke” all of a sudden like the poster I responded to?

We are talking about the most wholesome, feel good show on TV since Mr. Rogers neighborhood. I hope you aren’t naive enough to believe it’s all a coincidence that suddenly people started with the “woke” nonsense this season.

No, again, these people are in 100% support of any inclusive message.

They just thought the dialogue wasn't as snappy and the arc in the show wasn't very good.

Ted Lasso is like country music. It's earnest and very specific. Good country music can take you places emotionally you don't expect. Bad country music is corny as hell and that was their complaint about it.

So “corny dialogue” is what they meant when they said it was “too woke”?

Nope…. I’m not buying that. Sorry.

I mean, this is an objectively bad scene. It's not the "wokeness" of it, its the fact it's written and acted like a bad PSA. Which, as I mentioned above, doesn't necessarily trouble me. The show is what it is. But there are a handful of scenes like this you just have to laugh at.

No, I didn't say that.

People earlier in this thread were saying that people that were critical of this season were either complaining about it being woke, or they were stupid. I said the people I know who are most into this show would have no problem with it being woke (if it were, again, I haven't watched it yet and I wouldn't care if it were) and they certainly aren't stupid.

I have a question. I tried to watch this show and just gave up after four episodes. At that point I just decided it wasn't for me and don't really care to trash it or anything but with everyone seeming to love it so much I'm wondering if I need to power through and get farther in. I just found it very cheesy and that sort of TV bores me. I think it's probably just not my cup of tea but I usually do like a lot of the mainstream beloved stuff out there.

In the beginning, they definitely try to force a bunch of both football (soccer) and English culture to get the casuals up to speed on lingo. Definitely felt a little cheesy at the begging, but it gets going.

It is 100% cheese hooked directly up to your vein. And worth it.

If you drink tea, it’s definitely for you.

Specifically, what “woke and preachy” storyline offended you? This show has always been one step away from Mr Rogers neighborhood, what specifically bothered you this season?

The stupid preachy episode where everyone had to delete the naked pics off the phone was totally way overdone and very stupid. There were a lot of moments like the immigration stuff. The season of a whole was not nearly as good as the first two seasons. The ending was good. The season as a whole was not even close to being as good as season 1 and 2. 1 and 2 was basically a feel good story. Season 3 was "Let's address some issues".

I thought season 3 was significantly better than season 2. Both had multiple weird down episodes and 2 had all the momentum of the epic-ness that was season 1.

I thought 2 was good and was setting up season 3 for a better season than it was. Still all 3 were good. I just expected more out of season 3.

Well I agree with all that, but you replied to my post that was directly in response to a poster whose complaint about the season was that it was “woke and preachy.” So your post was confusing in that context, and I don’t understand why you seemed to take issue with my response to that whiny poster.

It seems that most everyone here agrees the first half of the season was relatively weak, but it finished strong.

Yep, nothing screams “woke” like deleting old sex videos off your phone. And what the hell does immigration have to do with “woke?” It seems to me you weirdos are using that word as a mindless catch-all for anything you disagree with. Weak.

Yeah I did a bad job there.

It’s always intentionally cheesy, corny, feel good. That’s the whole main characters persona. For me, I usually watch dark dramas so it was a welcome change. Certainly not for everyone, if you don’t like the first four hours, it’s probably not for you.

I might go as far as episode 8, simply for the darts scene.

No. It just didn't fit into any type of anything. It's like the writer had it happen to them so they made it part of the story. Feels like weirdos like you don't understand the difference between writing good stories and trying to push weird subjects on people that have little to nothing to do with anything.

Also, How many names are you going to try and call me instead of having a conversation like an adult? So far you have called me whiney, I am not that. I simply gave my opinion on season 3. You have called me a weirdo, because I didn't like a few story parts that I thought were woke and out of touch with the show. Is that how you are trying to get your point across? By calling people names and acting superior to them, when you are not. Just curious. Learn how to have a dialog with people instead of being like an 8 year old.

I think I still don’t understand what woke means and this isn’t helping.
