We have had an older (2012?) flat screen TV and wall mount laying around that we haven’t been using so I got the bright idea to mount it and set it up in my garage (wife thinks this is ridiculous, neighbor thinks it will be cool). We run pretty much everything in our house with Rokus or Roku TVs so being a cheap skate I got a $30 Roku Express.

Hooked everything up and realized this TV doesn’t have the newer HDMI certificate. So anytime I select a channel I get the HDCP error.

So I bought a splitter but didn’t do my homework. Hooked it up and the Roku start screen appears but then it turns black.

Can anyone help me find a way around the HDCP that will work with my Roku or should I just go by a new TV??

Yes.

Return the splitter and Roku express and put that money towards a TV with Roku/Google tv built in. For this kind of usage something like one of the TCL tvs might be great, and there should be some good deals here with the super bowl coming up

100%. Take it all back and start over new. Save the headaches and make it simple.
