Teams You'd Prefer to Avoid/Play in March

If there is a tournament game on the LHN, I want to avoid Texas. F that station.
I wouldn't think they have rights to any of the Tourney games?

It would be amazing if they did. Another ideal time to say, Horns Down!

I think if we get hot, we can beat anybody in the country. Just need to get 6 wins at the right time to get it done.

I still think UConn, Purdue and Houston are a step above anyone else in the country. Not scared of Houston on a neutral floor.

I just want to stay off the dreaded 5/12 line. Playing the likes of a Drake or Indiana State terrifies me.

I want to avoid bama although that matchup would be really interesting.

The good news it would take a mild implosion at this point to fall below a #4.

Even holding serve gets you a #3 at worse right now and maybe a #2.

You’re crazy if you’d want to play Purdue as a 1 seed. They are legit.
As things are currently trending, the only way we probably play Purdue is in the Elite 8, maaaybe sweet 16 if we fall to a 4. Every single one of us would sign up for an Elite 8 appearance right now, and I think we would matchup very well with them. Edey would likely have a heyday but our guards would make life hell on their guards' ability to get him the ball consistently.

In regards to the rest of the thread, I would obviously guess we are a 2, 3, or 4 seed. Two potential 13 seeds I wouldn't want to see are James Madison and the aforementioned Samford. Both teams can score in bunches and would be able to spread us out enough that they could knock us off with a good shooting night. If we do get a 2 or a 3, the only teams that would give me a slight pause are Hofstra or UNC Wilmington but I think we'd have the talent to be fine.

Lot of teams in the 6-11 range that could cause us a lot of problems in the round of 32. I know the Mountain West hasn't had a ton of success in the tourney lately but as an avid gambler of the MW (really pretty much all NCAA basketball), any team from there wouldn't be fun to play against. Indiana State would be one of the better 10 seeds in recent memory that Bracket Matrix currently has them at. I would love a Big Ten team in the second round, despite our lack of tourney success against them, but I think it is pretty down this year and we'd bully a lot of backcourts in that conference.

Anything after the Sweet 16 is gravy for me. Everyone at that point is pretty good. Just no UConn or Houston til as late as possible is all I ask

The last 2 years our weakness seems to be slowing down elite offenses that aren't very good on defense. Think Iowa, Pitt, Missouri last year.

Some teams that have that kind of profile this year likely to make the tournament are Alabama, Kentucky, Baylor, Clemson, Indiana State, FAU.

In regards to a potential Purdue matchup...think TJs gameplan against Hunter Dickinson. We doubled Hunter on the catch and made life extremely difficult on him. I personally think Dickinson is more equipped than Edey to split a double team for a bucket or to pass out of the double team to an open shooter. Dickinson is also automatic from 12-15 feet if left wide open and will bury an open 3. He is a more difficult matchup than Edey. KUs guards are much better than Purdues.

IMO Purdue is the #1seed Id prefer in our bracket.

Avoid:
Creighton. They've had some head scratching losses but there's A LOT of talent on that team.
8th in Kenpom's experience (3.11 years).
We’re currently a solid 3-seed, meaning we’d play a 6-seed (likely) to get to the Sweet 16.

The current 6-seeds are projected as :
Creighton
BYU
Kentucky
FAU

Basically my worst nightmare matchups in a row. I don’t want to see any of those

God I think we would win but I do not want to be the team that finally gives them their first tournament win. And especially with Fred at the helm.
Not to mention a team that shoots the 3 ball well.

Normally the tourney doesn't want conference games in round of 32 (BYU) but if you go over 8 teams it can happen. The big 12 will get 8 or more.

Purdue is the one seed I’d want to play. We’d clown Edey all day.

I think Illinois is a sleeping giant. I’ve been really impressed in spurts. Then they also go through spurts where they don’t look like they belong

If you force me to pick one of the likely #1 seeds to play today, I'd take Purdue no question.

The fact that we've also proven we can hang with another very different likely #1 seed (Houston) is what I think makes this team different from TJ's first two years.

Normally to win, most teams even very good teams endeavor to impose their pace or more general "style" on the game. This team can win a low-scoring, bad-shooting rock fight against the likes of Houston. It can also win a high-scoring track meet against the likes of Kansas. Or it can do both of these things in the same game e.g. TCU.

Would be great if the NCAA tourney was hosted in Hilton!

I'd want no part in any team we have already played, no matter how it went.

We play BYU twice (at least) this year, so that can't be a S16 matchup. I think we did one of our "secret pre-season scrummages" against Creighton. So they are on my no list.

Bring on either of the others.

You say this as if Drake is some random team from the MVC. If we matched up against them at all, stats would go out the window if they got an opportunity to knock off either us or Iowa in the tourney.

Yeah it’s the tournament. I totally agree. We would destroy them right now. However, the tournament has a habit of evening things up. Add their motivation to take out an instate team and I don’t like that. Still think we would win but ugh

Haven't seen any of their games but seems like Bama's been putting up around 100 pts/game frequently and chucks a lot of 3s. I think we want to avoid those teams who can get hot from 3... see BYU game.

Creighton is 9th in the country in 3PT attempt rate. They can't get placed in Omaha though.

Nebraska is 32nd in the country in3PT attempt rate and 46th in 3PT%.
