Team USA U19 Thread

Omaha started today. Surprisingly they tried to feed him in the post the first two trips down. Pass was late the first time and stolen. 2nd time he was covered and kicked out. Scored a bucket on a putback after offensive rebound. Will update more as I watch the replay.

Omaha plays till about the five minute mark left in the first quarter. Didn’t start the second quarter or come in until the 3:43 Mark left in the half. Maybe seed a three. Had a nice blocked shot, quick recovery on defense, but fouled from behind once, committed a turnover, trying to force the past of the post on a bad angle from the high post, set a nice “pick to free up a shooter from three on the break, quick hands on the fence, knocked a couple balls loose, and tipped rebound to one of his own players for a quick put back. Had a nice spin move in traffic, and rather than forcing the shot dumped it off for what would’ve been an easy assist, but Lebanon hacked the US player. Omaha has great quickness and hops. Both he and Newell have the type of bounce and quickness in their hop that remind me of Dennis Rodman.

Omaha didn't start the second half. Seems they are trying to get everyone playing time. Came in during the third quarter with under 6 minutes left. Big rebound. He got hammered on a shot at the rim but hit both free throws. travelled on a quick move to the hole. Missed a layup on the break. He tried touch but would have liked to see him take another step and jam it. I haven't seen an offensive foul called all game.
Don't try to take a charge in FIBA. I don't know what you have to do to get one called, but it looks like you would need to build a campfire and have a good pot of coffee going to get one called.

Was pleased to see more passing today, but looks like everyone is still looking for their own shop first. Passes to the post always seem late.

Just got hammered again on a strong move to the hole. 4 0f 4 on free throws so far. Got blown by as he closed out too fast, but amazingly recovered and got a piece of the ball from behind making the other player miss the layup. Lebanon plays like the old Detroit Pistons with Laimbeer and Mahorn - no layups in the paint--you have to earn it at the line. Omaha was just making a strong move to the bucket to draw contact, but lost the handle and fumbled it out of bounds. Nice close-out by Omaha on a three attempt by Lebanon at the buzzer (end of 3rd Q) that missed. US up 96-56.

I spoke too soon, Lebanon had an offensive foul on their third possession of the 4th quarter.

Omaha entered with about 4:15 left in the 4th. Impacted a Lebanon shot at the rim on the first trip down which was missed. Got the ball on the wing on the break but slipped and landed on his hind end trying to stop for a move to the bucket. Dude is like a gazelle running the court. He has the quickness to switch off he bigger player to mark a guard on the other team. TJ is going to love that flexibility on defense. His body type reminds me a lot of Ejim. US won 122 to 70.

Omaha isn't getting show his athleticism at all. All the offense is perimeter driven. There are some good looking one on one players, but Omaha isn't getting many touches. Mark Armstrong looks good, but he's already had one season under his belt at Villanova. At first, I thought that Omaha would get more benefit out of working with the team back here in the states, but after seeing this last game, I think he will come away with some benefits.

Yep. And yet they are hanging around the U.S. team.
May say more about the US than the China team. I think the US was in a pretty bad group. Both Slovenia and Lebanon got destroyed in their games today. Lebanon especially got utterly embarrassed by Spain.

Edit: And it looks like Madagascar got worked by France.

I don't know much about the US team but just checking in it looks like it's made up of a lot of stretch 3/4 type players that all do the same thing.
