Tailgating on Saturday

Is it good news that no one has posted definitive info about grass lots closing? Might they actually stay open?

With the obvious chance of rain tomorrow, I was thinking about getting a canopy tent for the tailgate. I am seeing a lot of 10x10 tents out there. Is that going to be too big and piss off my neighbors? Usually we tailgate grass lots where the spaces between cars are a bit more.

No a 10x10 is pretty normal. I have a 10x20 ISU tent. I got lucky and landed it before they stopped offering it.

We are heading up tonight, and so I wanted to know. I reached out to the Cyclone Club cause they responded to a comment on FB about the grass lots. The guy told me they are monitoring the lots and plan to have a meeting at 1:30. He said that doesn't mean a decision will be made then, but their obvious goal is to keep them open if possible. However they are taking all the rain forecasted this whole weekend into consideration. He said they could make a decision today, tonight or even tomorrow morning. I then brought up Vet Med and allowing RV's tonight and it would be nice to know before getting all setup and he stated they will take that into consideration in their discussions this afternoon. JP's tweet this morning didn't give me hope they will be open though.

If anyone is interested in a good model to keep an eye on go here

http://weather.cod.edu/forecast/

Click on HRRR
Click on Iowa
It should automatically have Simulated Reflectivity selected
Step through the hours

This is a short range model that updates hourly so depending on how far into the hour you are it may not have run all the way out.

You should be fine. Most tents are that size I believe and there are plenty in the grass lots

So what is the word on grass lots?

We were up there earlier tonight dropping off the rv at Vet med. The lots look good but with another bout of rain in the morning with little time to dry out who knows.

If you are in the lots tonight keep an eye on the weather.

As @FDWxMan said it is looking better but it is nearly impossible to predict where will see showers/storms as slight fluctuations can change a lot. The NAM seems to have backed off quite a bit on tomorrow nights complex and pushed it off until what should be after the game.

HRRR is handling tonight fairly well...if it is correct I don't know if I would want to be anyone in facilities at Kinnick right now.

Agree.

So much of what happens tomorrow depends exactly on how things go tonight. Where the boundaries are left behind by the storms, how far the front gets driven, etc. If the game drags a little bit we could start to get into a few issues.

You're in town???
Yep! We come back every couple years, almost always for the first home game. We spent 4.5 days at the in-laws in Coralville and drove to Ames mid-week. And yes, we're bringing Ollie to his first tailgate/football game :).

There's nothing like road tripping almost 4000 miles with 4 kids over 15 days. And my brother's family literally just walked in the door, visiting from NYC, also going to the game with us.
