I have never been to Kinnick for an Iowa State game. Is there an area that is typically better to meet up with other Cyclones for tailgating or is everyone pretty scattered? The NDSU fans had an impressive setup in Ames. I am not sure we do that in Iowa City or not.

From my experiences there it is really scattered.

Tailgating in IC if you know people with good locations is pretty fun.
Tailgating in IC if you don't know anyone with a good location sucks.

Maybe the Johnson/Linn County Alumni Associations put a tailgate on? That would be pretty cool.

If you don't know anyone it will be semi up to you. You can park for like $20 bucks out at Finkbine commuter lot and just set up your tailgate near as many state fans as you can find.

You have 2 choices. Tailgate pretty far away from the stadium or really far away from the stadium.

Like in the corner of that massive field you have in Ames?

Lol, you really dont like IC, do you? Dont blame ya, thats why we're rivals.

The advice about knowing someone vs. not knowing someone is pretty accurate. If you know someone with a lot pass, or a house, the tailgating is awesome. If you and a couple others are flying solo, there are a few options. You could either park downtown, hit up a bar, then bus/walk to the stadium (like judoka suggested). If not, my family (before I went to school there) would just drive down melrose and pay to park in someones lawn. The prices arent bad, and you can just pop the trunk open of your car, set everything up and party. I havnt been to a game this year yet, but I hear the lots havent been as nuts this year as they have been in the past. Granted, its ISU weekend, so it will probably be nuts. Lots a bit further from the stadium (Hancher, Law) are a pretty good time too, but you may have to walk a bit. Hope this helps!

Woodstock was in a massive field. All good things come from a field.

Just stop, he is on a roll.

Lol oh c'mon... ive been stuffed way back in one of those corners, and its just as long of a walk as some places in IC. If you park a mile or miles away in IC form the stadium, then its your fault. There are closer options, no matter how busy. Now you are just finding things to ***** at.

Here is what you do in Ames, tailgate at your spot until an hour/hour and a half before kickoff. Then grab some roadies and walk to the stadium and stop and talk with people. Most are usually friendly if you are not a ****. + you can find some great food and beverages along the way!

See that's not tailgating. That's a house party and a bar. Iowa fans don't seem to grasp that tailgating requires an actual truck/vehicle.

My suggestion is to park at Hancher. The parking is free and there is a free shuttle to the stadium. The traffic isn't horrible to get in or out. You'll have to get there early, and even earlier because it's the ISU game, but it's not a bad tailgate.

For those not familiar with Iowa City, I would recommend parking behind the Comfort Inn on Hyw 6 across from the Coral Ridge Mall and take the train (Hawkeye Express) in to the game. The train runs 4 hours before the game to 90 minutes after the game. The train drops you off at the south west corner of Kinneck Stadium and tickets are $10/person, parking is free or included in the cost of the train ride. Some tail gating goes on in the parking lot, 2 years ago we met AJ Klein's parents tail gating there.
