Sutton fired at OSU

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

Bill Self? Not as crazy as you would think. He played there, is from there, has family from there, and they can pay him a **** ton of money.

If he loses in the championship game and then leaves for OSU it would be very Roy Williams like. Loses to the cuse and goes to UNC. Kansas fans would start feeling like like crap

I heard a bit of a radio interview with Self today, and he danced around quite a bit but definitely did not close the door on it. That would be hilarious if KU got ditched again! :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

If Self bolts to OSU, does anyone else think Danny Manning becomes the new KU coach? I think at this point, it'd be in KU's best interest to hire an alum as a coach, and Manning is already there at the school, so he might be the natural fit.

You've got a point, I could see that. Either Manning, or some recruit's dad.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

Boone Pickens may be involved. Millions to send the kid packing. Three mil a year to buy Self.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

Some programs just "expect to win" ....guess what? In life we usually get what we "expect". It seems to me that ISU and fans just "settle" rather than "expect"

Sadly, I think this is true of many of our Cyclone brethren.

I certainly think T. Boone Pickens could be very per$ua$ive in pitching the Okie State job to Self. Although many of you continually knock Self...the man can coach...Elite 8 at Tulsa, Elite 8 at Illinois, Elite 8 and now Final Four at KU...he is a winner.

Nothing against you DenverClone, but that is such a bogas statement. Of course every teams fans want to win.

I get tired of people throwing that out anytime someone suggests that we need to be more patient or defends a current coach or athletic decision.

I hear they've already sent a plane to Iowa City to offer Kirk Ferentz $150 trillion plus his own oil well if he takes the job. Two oil wells if he coaches football on the side. Let's face it, the man is in high demand.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

I am surprised by this. 2 years at the helm is really not much tme to get guys in that will play how you want them to play, assuming that Sean has a different philosophy than his daddy. More than likely, he uses the same type of strategy as Eddie did but is 2 years really enough time for him?

I mean, I don't think Sean was a great coach, but I'm still surprised by this.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

Doesn't seem like Sutton got a very fair shake to prove he could recruit and coach "his" players. 2 years does not a basketball team build (at least, without multiple Micheal Beasley type players). I don't know that Sean's coaching is much different from Eddie's, but I am sure some things were different. I would suspect that Sean will be someone's assistant coach at a high level program or he will get a coaching job with a "lower" D1 school. In some ways, this may be a blessing to him - following his father couldn't have been easy. Now, he will get to start fresh and a load of cash from OSU.

I agree, we need to give coaches time to make an impact, something OSU should have done as well. If you look at mid-majors and smaller market BCS schools, time to implement a system is what is needed to turn the program around such as Mangino and Pinkel did in football this year.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

t-bone made a statement a couple of mos ago that he wanted to make Self the highest paid coach in college. (not just b-ball)

Oh, I can't wait to hear KU cry and moan about this.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

rep for both of you...if you have a problem with that, you come talk to me...I'm a man!:biglaugh:

Some of the Coors light commercials on the right are pretty funny too.

I always kind of had this feeling that OSU might end up paying a high "price" for Boone's money. If OSU gets into revolving coaching scenarios in the major sports because nobody can live up to Boone's expectations, they are headin' for disaster, with gorgeous facilities mind you, but disaster nonetheless...

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Big money and great facilities are the common denominators in nearly every very successful BCS level DI program.

Doug Gottlieb stated that okie state is willing to pay up to 5million to get the coach that they want...aka a coach who can get them to the final four every other year!!

I'll just throw this one out there...when is texas gonna fire rick barnes for his failures to get to the final 4 on a regular basis.....

If I have a 130 million dollar budget and I cant see the final 4 regularly its time for a new basketball coach!!

You obviously have never lived in Texas. I have. Sure, they want to win in all sports but the only sport they really care about is FB. Period.

Self pretty much shut down speculation in his press conference. When he was finally asked about it he said he loved his alma mater but he would basically tell them if they're thinking about contacting him he would strongly suggest they don't.

SportsCenter showed his response to the question. Frankly, he never said "no way" and did a whole lot of dancing in his response. Obviously, he is trying to make sure he and his team are focused on Saturday night at this point. Win or lose in San Antonio, I would say Self is going to have a discussion with OSU after they exit the Final Four (even if they are National Champs) based upon what I say him say yesterday.

Re: Sean Sutton resigns

IF Self goes to OSU and IF KU decides to hire an alum it will be Turgeon, not Manning.

Personally, if Self leaves KU, I see them going after a "bigger name" than Turgeon. Turgeon is an alum, but his success as a coach has not been that spectacular in my estimation. And no way would it be Manning...KU your first head coaching gig...NO WAY.

Being a competitor in the Big 12 North...I would be ecstatic if KU went with Turgeon.
