Survivor 44

I'm kind of over all the dumb twists they're pulling. Can't we just let them play? This article is spot on.

I agree. A few twists here and there are good. However, it annoys me that someone is playing a great game and all of the sudden they are screwed and nothing they can do. I wasn't rooting for the guy last night, however, he should have got to have his bag, played a fake idol or took his shot in the dark. They just basically gave him no chance at all.

Bummer, I liked Matt and wanted to see more of him and Frannie but you also run that risk when you look like a couple and out the target on your back. Also agree the twists are getting a bit out of hand. Once you get to the merge you need more of a pool of players and votes to start weeding out the field.

I'm amazed Yam Yam is still around. He has no alliance other than Carolyn who he's fought with before and Carson and that's about it. The longer he hangs around the more of a resume he's going to build as an underdog. Still think this has been a good season so far even with the flaws Jeff and production have created. I've said it before I think Jeff needs to go back and review the first 10 or 20 seasons and find some challenges and twists that have not been used in a long time and bring them back for a couple seasons to make it less predictable. Or at the very least create some new challenges that are nothing like what has bee done before.

The one that should come back is the memorize the order of symbols comp.

Great example of one. The Survivor history quiz and the survey where they all answer a set of questions about each other like who is the most annoying, playing the best game so far, etc is a good one too because it also can create some more drama with how everyone answered. I would love to see the eating challenge return but I'm sure that is one Jeff will never bring back. Have not seen Survivor auction in awhile either. Another one they will probably never bring back that always was labeled as a curse if you won it was the car challenge as no one that won the car ever won the season.

They are trying to find some new twists that have made it interesting but they are long overdue to bring back some ot the stuff that made the show popular early on.

I think the issue is some of the season’s cast just aren’t that good (last season for example) so they try and throw something in there to keep it interesting for the audience.

This season the cast would have more than held up on their own just fine but it seems like every episode has its own random twist that is adding to much of a “luck factor” to the show.

Pretty emotional episode. Btw anyone else think Yam Yam is getting a winner edit right now? I don’t think they are giving anyone else the normal winners edit. Normally you can tell that the winner will be between a few different people that they concentrate on all the time.
I was pretty surprised Frannie allowed Matt to be put at risk. She had won individual immunity from her group, so she was protected. I figured she'd let Brandon from the other group win the whole challenge so that Matt would be protected since that entire group would've gotten immunity. She had to know Matt was going to be on the chopping block. Bad strategy move by her IMO, killed off her own alliance for a PB&J and potato chips.

It was only a matter of time before they broke up that couple regardless. If you want to win you gotta leave it all out there, she has been good in challenges just now needs to navigate the social game right to keep building the resume. I'm sure there will be some cheesy moments with them at the end whether she makes final 3 or is on the jury with him. Remember when they used to have Ponderosa videos you could watch online to see how life on the jury is? Would be a good season to bring that back too.

I do think it's funny that no one has figured out Carolyn has an idol or is even seeing her as a threat. They figured out Danny has one and he had done a good job hiding it so far. I still think Carolyn is the sleeper that has been underestimated so far. As long as she doesn't go off the deep end over something she is in a good spot to make some big moves later on. As much as I would like to see Yam Yam go having him around helps Carolyn's game. I've said it many times if you find an idol and no one saw you find it you never let anyone know you have it as it holds more power when people don't know you have it.

Good blindside of Brandon last night. The way that vote played out I think Yam Yam and Carson knew what the plan was but in order for them not to burn the bridge they have as middle votes had to vote for Frannie for appearances. Otherwise I think they would have tipped them off that Danny was playing his idol.for Frannie and would have maybe seen a split vote as a result.

Not sure what Carolyn was doing at the challenge in that net... if I was Carson I would not even bothered getting into the mud when it was clear they had not shot of making up the time they were behind.

I thought Ratu was going to be tipped off and when he played the idol for Frannie Ratu was going for Danny.

Also when in pairs it looked like Heidi and Jaime could be confused for being sisters because they look so much alike.

Yeah when Danny played his idol Ratu didn't look concerned until they saw Brandon's name the first time so something seemed off. You'd think if they thought all the votes were going on Frannie that playing the idol would have gotten some concerned reactions before the vote was read.

I'm 100% certain Probst was hoping for Carson to barf while trapped in the net so he could give us a big ol "THAT'S how you do it on Survivor!!"

Really enjoyed getting back to a more straightforward game this episode. Frannie and Danny have the potential to be a really strong duo if (big if after the blindside) they can avoid getting split.

I still have no idea what game Heidi is playing and feel similarly about Lauren, save for Lauren's extra vote looming large. But after several low-profile players making good runs lately I'm not sure if that's the worst thing.

Right now I think the cream of the crop is starting to rise to the top with the gameplay strategy. I think the 3 Tika of Yam Yam, Carolyn, and Carson are playing a very smart game of playing both Ratu and Soka against each other and making them feel like they have their votes to make the moves they want then use that information to determine how they want the vote to go. The ones I think are the biggest contenders to win right now in no particular order:

Carolyn - everyone keeps underestimating her and she has an idol that no one has yet to figure out that she has. As long as she can keep that secret the more powerful it gets and she can make a big move when either she is on the chopping block or possibly use it to save someone else and add that to her resume. She still socially awkward and not much of a challenge threat right now but she is kind of like a snake in the grass waiting for the right moment to strike.

Yam Yam - I am not a big fan of him and find him kind of annoying as he tries to play the victim when things aren't going his way when he used to think he was the one with the power and calling the shot. But he's playing a really good social game and building a resume of being on the chopping block several times yet escaping the vote because of his social play.

Carson - yup another Tika but he's been quietly playing the both sides of the vote game and if it is a puzzle challenge it is to his advantage. Playing a smart game by listening and using that information to his advantage.

Frannie - is a physical threat and playing a pretty decent social game and now without Matt there to put as big of a target on her back she has a path she can navigate to get to the end.

Danny - playing well so far and probably my favorite to watch this season but he's a physical threat and playing the idol to save Frannie probably put more of a target on him now

I honestly have no idea what kind of strategy Lauren, Heidi, Jaime, and to some extent Kane are really playing. Kane is strategic but seems like he doesn't want to get his hands dirty when he throws out a name, he wants somone else to fall on that sword or he just goes along with whoever else they want to vote for. Lauren has that extra vote but she's also volunteered to sit out multiple challenges pre-merge so that could come back to haunt her with the jury if she can make it to the end. Heidi and Jaime I can't really think of anything they have done so far that has stood out.

Not sure how or why anyone really perceived Kane as a threat, but maybe that speaks to Yam Yam's social game now that he's 4-for-4 on his revenge tour. Regardless the scenes at camp and at tribal were entertaining and I really like that we haven't had overwhelming/obvious boots the last few weeks.

I was really looking forward to Jamie absolutely face-planting by playing the fake idol at some point so that's a bummer. Obviously better for her though without that false sense of security.

How are we feeling about Tika's chances at making it to the end? Odds are one of them will betray the others before fire making at final 4, but I could also see each of them being confident in their chances at FTC.

Didn't Jamie give Kane her fake idol?. At some point you'd think the others will catch on that the Tika 3 are controlling the votes right now and will target one if them. If Carolyn can continue to keep her idol secret it's going to be epic when she surprises everyone and plays it.

Winning the Sanctuary challenge is a curse. Noelle last season, now
Frannie
. Carolyn tells Yam Yam and Carson to vote Heidi instead of Frannie, they agree then change their minds last minute and vote Frannie. Based on the preview for next week, looks like the target is either Yam Yam or Carson. Carolyn still has her idol, no one knows about it, and no one suspects her of having one. It's only good for the next 3 tribals. Wouldn't be surprised if she wins.
