Summer Concert Thread

We caught the Pixies last night at Hoyt Sherman. Perfect venue for them. Great show. Black Francis didn't speak to the crowd at all, and there was zero time between songs. They plowed through 40 songs in two hours. It was a frenetic pace. The audience barely had time to hoot in between songs. Super happy to get this one checked off of my bucket list.

Yeah it was pretty amazing. Kept flowing from one song right into the next for two hours. They had to be exhausted after that. Wish Deal was still with them but Lenchantin did a good job. Both shows I’ve been to there have been great. The other was the Flaming Lips last year. Love Hoyt Sherman.

Seeing Greta Van Fleet tonight at the Armory in Minneapolis, and as I was walking down the street to the CVS by my place yesterday I ran into Josh and Jake Kiszka walking out haha.

2 things. 1) really chill guys and very welcoming of a picture and shooting the **** for a minute while I got my phone ready. and 2) they are TINY. Like barely over 5 foot if I had to guess hahah, I knew they were short but not that short.

What'd you think of the show?

I had a blast. I thought they had a ton of energy and sounded great. I'll be seeing them every time they come to town.

Yeah, it was awesome! Like I said I wasn't sure what to expect with the Venue, but it was good enough where you could feel the rock-n-roll but also could understand and hear him singing.

I'll definitely be seeing them again as well.

Where did you stand/sit?

I was on the main floor on the right side against the railing about 1/4 of the way up. I tried pushing as far as I could get but it was so packed. Not the best venue for sight lines, especially if you're far back. How bout you?

But I was so amazed with their sound. Every song was about 7 minutes of pure rock and roll joy. Closest I'll ever get to seeing Led Zeppelin...

Was invited down to NOLA for Voodoo Fest this Fall by my long-time internet friend who I have yet to meet. Been pricing flights and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna take the plunge. I think most of you can guess who I'll be there for.

I was on the right side as well, about halfway back. Yeah, not the best GA viewing, but that's alright. I'm a tall guy who hates being "That guy" who abstructs someone elses view, so I tend to stand to the sides and with as little people behind me as possible.

Spot on with their show, I didn't want the songs to end even though they were like 2 minutes past their original length haha

I'd rather be "that guy" than behind that guy. I've learned no matter how tall you are, there always seems to be someone taller in front of you at a concert. I'm 6'2" but there's always a tall tree-like person in front of me of every show.

I'm 6'6-6'5.75, so I may be that guy:oops: hence my always trying to push towards a wall haha

So you're the tree at every show!!
Unfortunately, probably. More often than not, but that one time I see someone taller than me, I do get a little smile on my face haha

Only thing that really sucks about it is, I love concerts and live music, but the fact that I am constantly being worried about if I'm screwing someone else over, it does have an effect on my experience. If I find a spot early, it makes the whole experience way more enjoyable.

/end tree rant

Gambino and Goldlink are both amazing. I want to hit ACL for Gambino. If you aren't familiar with Thunderpussy, I really enjoy them as they rock hard. I also really like Rainbow Kitten Surprise. That should be a great show!

Just got back from K.C when we saw the Old 97's, Turnpike Troubadours and Jason Isbell at Bonner Springs. Hotter than the surface of the sun to begin with, but a front came in and it cooled down for TT and Isbell.

if you have never seen a Jason Isbell concert, I suggest you take one in. Great concert, as with the Troubadours also.Great venue too.

We're doing a big girls' night for it!

Stephens is a nice venue too. I'm a big fan of the loge seating. I'd have preferred Hoyt Sherman so I wouldn't have to drive at all but it's ok. I'm just glad he's coming through central Iowa at all.

What I have planned right now:
-Cole Swindell, June 22nd @ Stir Cove (Council Bluffs)
-Joe Bonamassa, August 7th @ The Orpheum Theatre (Omaha)

Not really summer but also going to:
-Henrik Freischlader Band, October 1st @ Rockhouse Bar (Salzburg)
-Gary Clark Jr., November 7th @ The Orpheum Theatre (Omaha)

There are several other Stir Cove shows I’d like to get to (Dropkick Murphys, Barenaked Ladies & Better than Ezra, O.A.R., Counting Crows & Live...). FYI - Stir Cove is a great little venue if you ever find yourself in Council Bluffs.

I’d also would like to find a way to see Foo Fighters in Wrigley Field... probably a very long shot for me this year unfortunately

So instead of Foo Fighters at Wrigley (just saw them in November in Des Moines), my friend and I decided to get tickets to Pearl Jam at Wrigley! Can’t wait, when we saw them in 2016 it was amazing!

I already gave report on Cole swindell, but am really much more excited for the rest of the shows on my list this year! They all should be great!
