Just wondering, how many hours (for college students only) did you study per week?

I'm guessing it's different for each major but I'm curious if 35-40 hours a week is the normal or if it's made up.

I'd say I averaged 10-15 hours per week. 2-3 hours per weekday.

This is how much I study...I was recommended by a faculty member to study around 28-35....:rolleyes:

I also have all B's so it's not like i'm failing everything either.

I wouldn't say that a typical week is 35-40 hours but there are definately times when you will not have a life. It also does depend on your major, I had a roommate who was going into history and he never had more than a couple of pages to read and maybe write a short paper while I went into engineering and had multiple times where I had to pull all-nighters in order to get done on time (I'm sure that's partly my own fault as well). Depending on your major I would say that 35-40 hours is reasonable but not every week, especially not your first year when you're taking intro classes.

Well if you really want to get decent grades and pass you're classes with mostly A's then the 35-40 hours a week isn't a lie. I never studied close to that amount while in college and still received a B- GPA. I probably studied around 10 hours a week. I was a mechanical engineer also.

When I was there the foreign students studied about 110-120 per week, so it might have averaged 30.

Chem E is probably 30 hours a week, plus 17 class hours. Can fluctuate a lot depending on the week and classes

I'm pretty sure they said you're supposed to study 3 hours for every hour of class so you could figure it out based on your schedule.

cpr E here...last semester was around 15-20..this semester I have Erik so around 10

I got told this too...I'm curious if it's BS or if it's true. 35-40 seems an insane amount to me.

Depends on your major and ability to absorb info.

I didn't "study" a ton during the week, but I probably put 4-5 hours per day into class outside of actually attending class, mostly just trying to stay on top of the reading/homework (if there was any). Between 8AM and 5PM, M-T, I was pretty much in "school" mode. I'd tap out early on Fridays, but I usually did work on Sundays.

Depends on your major. My degree was in marketing and I studied no more than 3 hours a week and I skated by with a 3.00.

Depends. Do you count homework as studying? If you do then I spend around 20 hours a week, but I only spend about 2 hours of that actually studying. Unless I have a test and then spend a lot more time studying.

Depends what you count as studying. I went to all my classes but did next to nothing outside of required assignments/group work outside of class. I finished accounting and finance with about a 3.3 which was brought down a couple tenths of a point from the 2 years I spent as undeclared taking classes I thought looked interesting. I maybe spent an hour of studying on weeks when there was a big test but if you average it out across the semester it was probably something like 15 minutes a week.

That does sound pretty insane. I couldn't tell ya how many hours I spend doing school stuff. I have no idea. I'm the type of person who can study pretty hard a couple nights before an exam up until the exam and do well on it. Staying on top of readings is good advice, but I don't do it. I just read before exams.
