I think it literally was. I was sitting up in the nosebleeds near the visitors, and everyone in our section was singing along. I think Sweet Caroline should be a victory song, played after a win... give the crowd a reason to stick around. Or at least when the game is apparently out of reach. Last night was a perfect example.
yeah, i could probably go for that. down by thirty and "good times never felt so good" just isn't right.

Having been in the student section, I can say that there are areas for improvement. We need more people screeming on 3rd downs and the number of people who truly know the school song is pathetic.
Overall, I thought the student section did a great job. Being the first game and everything, everybody picked up the chants better than I thought. Sweet Caroline was awesome! I only wish the whole stadium would wave their arms like the students, that would look awesome! I also wish we could get the "Cyclone Power" cheer going after every touchdown or at least more than once a game. And I also wish the Band wouldn't play during the chants either, not sure if they have to, but it kind of ruins the chant. Nothing against the band or anything, they are great! Overall, student section = "A" for that game.
During which chants? We play Fights after every TD, and "For I, For S" after FGs and PATs. Whatcha Gonna Do is kind of useless without the band, so I'm not exactly sure of what chants we're playing through...
From my experience... if something like cyclone power starts up the band will join it and not play. But if a group of 10 students start a chant, well, the band can't hear you. Get your neighbors and the rest of the section going on it. If the band can hear it, and it fits in the general PG rating the band adheres to, they'll join in again...
During the Cyclone Power cheer towards the end of the game. Both sides of stadium were chanting, but the band started playing. The chant had been going for awhile so maybe they thought it was long enough so they started to play again.
Yeah, thats what i figured. No big deal, i just love the cyclone power chant! :wink::yes:
I believe that might be the simplest, most acceptable, most reasonable middle ground we will ever find.
When the song started up Thursday night, a couple of poo-poo's around us in "F Troop" started their annual caterwalling about the classic tune: "Oh no! not that darn song!". By the second stanza, everybody but the aforementioned poo-poo's was singing, swaying, and having a good time.
Two huge factors were at hand - The fact that that "Good times never felt so good" was actually true (especially after the 2007 opener) -AND- the student section was obviously engrossed, entertained, and involved.
Grats to the student section, they were definitely part of the game and game experience Thursday!
the "don't know the words"? It wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to ax it, lol
