Student Section

The people who didn't go to the game, barring a previous commitment, are not the type of people who read this forum. Not sticking up for them, but complaining about it here really doesn't accomplish anything.
 
I was at the game so I don't know the answer to this question: Can the people watching the game on tv tell that there is a huge empty section in the balcony? During games that I've seen on tv I remember the entire balcony looking dark and not being able to tell if there are people or not. I understand that there should be butts in the seats but the atmosphere was good with the students that were present.
 
Lottery system. Plain and simple. Involve the computer science department to build a website that allows students to give their interest in purchasing basketball tickets. Then a random number of students have access to the website at particular times to purchase ASSIGNED seats. After all big donors have access to their assigned seats, why can't students who pay a lot of money to go to the school have access to something similar. If a student wants to sell the tickets for a game? Fine, put a e-commerce piece into where they can sell their seat. You all might think thats hard to create, but honestly..we have some brilliant students who can build it.

They assigned seats back in the day via a lottery system, I think its time to do it. No camping out and putting tents with trash on the ground, on the north part of the stadium which is where the larger donors park. Sure, there is some "cool" factor to camping out and posting pics on FB and Twitter of students camping out to get into the games. But a more comprehensive ticketing system for the students is needed.

no you can't see the upper balcony. that's why tiny-*** arenas looks the same as hilton on tv.

First, remember that we are STUDENTS, with classes, homework, labs, projects, etc. Most professors on campus wont accept a basketball game as a reason for not getting our **** done. It is getting close to midterm time and classes are in full swing now. I know that doesnt get cover every student, but it should be taken into consideration.

Second, the ticket situation for students right now is awful. Overselling by 2000 (or whatever it is) means that for big games, not every student is guaranteed a spot. That means getting to the game 2/3/4+ hours before the doors open just to get a seat. Again, we are students that cant sacrifice that sort of time regularly.

Third, electronic tickets suck donkey balls. If I want to sell my ticket, I either have to find another student willing to pay the $2 transfer fee on top of what I want for it and mess with the piece of crap that is the Ticket Exchanger, or I have to pay $2 to print my ticket(on top of on campus printing fees), to then go give to another student. This normally has to be done a few days in advance.

Fourth, the Cyclone Alley leaders are terrible at getting any sort of excitement going for these games. I never see any posters and such around campus reminding students that there games going on (for the smaller games it would be nice for the reminder). Then during the game, there is no core group leading cheering. Ill be in the balcony and be the one of maybe a dozen people cheering, while others around me just look at me weird.

Lastly, the non-students are even worse than the students when it comes to cheering. I never see the non-students on their feet for more that 2 minutes at any point during the games. Everybody sits down as soon a run ends, or we miss a shot, and so on. Its kind of disheartening to have all you criticizing the students for not showing up, when the adults are just a bunch of wet blankets in the stands. And dont even get me started on the MASSIVE number of people who begin leaving with 2 minutes left in the game.

It's 3 hours on a Tuesday night. If you can't manage your time with SCHOOL work, you're in trouble when you get to the real world and have an actual job. Damn I miss school.
 
I think me and the rest of the students on here get frustrated by this topic because of the ***holes like ISUFan22 that generalize all students to be lazy whiners and basically worthless people in general, when those of us on here are the ones actually going to games and trying our best to create a good atmosphere at Hilton.

Of course we wish that the section was full. Everyone here does.

When did us old folk get seats in the student section?

I love these excuses for not showing up - deflecting against the core issue by asking others how many games they attended or blaming CAC. Lame, as usual.

At least the students are consistent. Lame attensance. Lame excuses.

Maybe you should sit in the student section and show us how to attensance games better.

Comical when there are countless folks claiming the same thing and keeping this thread alive - just stating factual info on a thread someone else bumped back up, again and again and again. But sure, single one person out if you feel better.

I'm not the problem with the students inability to find Hilton on gameday. Perhaps ISU should get a course for that started since so many can't seem to navigate around properly.

Students being too cool for school. Spend more time making fun of the curly haired girl, CAC and griping about oversold seats than attending the gamers and applying peer pressure on others to attend.
 
We just beat a team that beat KU by 12 and had won 9 of the last 10..and we are complaining about the student section. For the love of god.

True, but the students that only show up to 3 games a year shouldn't be getting their hands on student season tickets. I don't get how they can really be that excited about seeing Kansas and Iowa when those are the students that don't have the slightest clue about basketball.

I know a lot of people who were in meetings for VEISHEA, varieties, and doing other stuff that are great traditions at ISU. I think that is a pretty acceptable reason to miss. My class today ended at five thirty but thankfully I got a seat.

Agreed. But no one expecting a completely full section every game. What is reasonable to expect is to not have nearly the entire upper section open and many empty seats in the lower student section as well. Today was one of the worst student attended games and it was against a very good ranked team. Gotta show up.

If it was just one or two games that were bad, non-issue and I'd defend them. But it's been all season with plenty of empty seats minus 3 games. With a much complained about oversold amount of tickets and still having that problem - it's pathetic.
