I heard that over 3,000 students have signed a petition to keep the Cy logo and not replace it with the I State logo. Students believe it make us unique while the I State could be Illinois State, Idahoa State, Indiana State, etc. I have to agree the Cy logo with the ISU is distinctive to Iowa State.

They could get 30,000 to sign their petition, it won't matter. The decision has been made and I have a hard time understanding why people care so much. It's not like Cy is being run outa town, he'll still be our mascot.

I hate the new logo with a passion but understand it's not going away. It would make JP look bad if he fell back on his word.

Yeah, the new logo's boring, but I think it's an improvement over the current logo. I wish we could get a simple logo w/no words. C'mon, we're the cyclones. Hire a graphic designer to create a logo for a tornado. It would look great.

That's how the perfectly adequate previous logo was developed...

You're never going to please everyone. We had a poll on here after the new uniforms were revealed and some 80% of the people gave them a thumbs up. I was one of those and I still am. The I-State logo will be a huge improvement in terms of how we look on TV... which is really all I care about.

New logo is here to stay boys and girls...

The old logo sucks anyway. If we want to change it put the walking cy back as the logo.

i love the new logo, the reasoning and the entire concept behind the change. it makes complete sense. i, however, have not gotten to explain the reasoning to anyone who disagrees because i get the "YEAH BUT CY..." before they even listen. frankly, i cant wait for the "Keep Cy Out of the Logo" petition so I can sign that one. Like people have said, hes still the mascot, just not part of the logo. for those of you signing the petition, do most of you really not understand that?

Come on people!!! When's the last time you heard or say any media info on these other "I State" schools? Think about it... never. There won't be any confusion. Mississippi State has "M State" & look at all the schools with a similar name. There's more to it than the name. It's the colors, logo, mascot, etc. Can we freakin move on from this & just support JP, the teams & yes, the new logo!

All of your posts seem to be trying to make Pollard and Geoffrey look bad. I wonder why?

I signed the petition. im not a student and i know that cy has never been on the helmet before(old helmet just said "cyclones") i know it wont change anything, but id like my 2cents to be heard.acknowledged anyway.

The reason i prefer the current logo because it distinguishes ISU for me. The I-State logo is pretty vague.

i always thought they needed to add an option for those who pefer to keep the current helemt, but apparently that wasnt considered.

except that all of these schools currently go by ISU. JP mentions this in the press conference that you obviously didnt listen to. even if you did watched it online, it doesnt mean you LISTENED to what he said. no one currently goes by I-State. JP wants to grab it now. there were times when no one went by K-State or M-State either...they made a marketing effort to wrap it up and it has been theirs ever since.

the Cy logo with the ISU is distinctive to Iowa State.
again, by not listening to the the presser, you missed the message JP delivered. you know, the story about coaches going on recruiting trips (wearing apparel with the ISU spinning brid) and recruits were asking if we were the Louisville Cardinals or the Illinois State Redbirds. OBVIOUSLY "the Cy logo with the ISU" IS NOT "distinctive to Iowa State"

Yeah except for when I see OU, it could be Ohio U. When I see USC, is is Southern Cal or South Carolina?

That argument does not hold water. WE just need to embrace that logo and be bigger than Ill state, or Indiana State. We need to become the trademark, which will not happen unless everyone is on board.

I for one love the new logo. Simple and classic.

Well, if we are being confused by Indiana State or Illinois State, we got more problems than our damn logo.

People have too much time on their hands if they are going to set up websites and petitions over a football helmet. I realize it's boring in Iowa, but it aint that bad.

The other "I" states aren't even in freaking BCS conferences. If we start winning, esp. in football and men's hoops, our identity will take care of itself. Trust me, people on the coasts will never distinguish Iowa, Indiana, Illinois or Idaho, or for that matter, Iowa State Hawkeyes from Iowa Cyclones.. (seriously, had a guy in Carmel, Ca ask me if we were the hawkeyes when he saw my ISU shirt on). Sometimes Ohio is confused with Iowa. Don't let the average americans' stupidity geographically determine how we design our logo.

I was in my 3rd yr. at ISU when the new logo was implemented. It was ok, a unique way to combine the bird (Cy) and a cyclone... but over time I've come to realize it is way to busy, and required more colors than what our official school colors were. The traditional "big names" in college sports seemed to have more simple logo's, even with a complicated mascot. You don't see wolverines all over Michigan attire. You don't see a drunk punching irishman on Notre Dame helmets nor a prairie wagon on OU helmets. Look at Va Tech, they are the hokies (turkey?), have a VT on the helmet, but yet have a walking mascot that is some sort of bird (see the college entrance songs thread in the general college section). The new "I-State" has really grown on me... it's not mind blowingly unique, but more simple and bringing back the richer cardinal is fantastic. You can't keep to stupid current logo with the change in uniforms. Cripes, I thought ISU has good departments in fashion and textiles. Let's show it. Geesh.

I am sure this was talked about somewhere else, but why did they go back to the old helmets yesterday?

I just don't care what other people go by or what other people associated us by. Last I checked, people from other schools aren't writing us paychecks and donor money. My mother always taught me to never worry about what people think of you and Iowa State as a school should worry about themselves and figuring out how to never get by 50 points again before worrying about what others think and improving their image.

Blue blenderbird needs to go to the toilet. That thing has always sucked, give me old walking Cy if anything. I'm not opposed to the new logo and I definitely like the complete moving forward from the Dan Mac era. I just see this as a continuing way of parting from those past associations and moving ahead.
