The original thread was closed so I thought I would post this here, an update from the Iowa State Daily.

Raven Gileau did not use her cell phone the night she died

Brennan said it was still unclear why Gileau ended up on the tracks that night; and while her injuries were consistent with being hit by a train, the tapes Ames police retrieved from Union Pacific do not show a collision.

I wonder if they have ran the scenerio of her getting hit by a vehicle then ditched near the tracks.

Have you watched Hostel? It was a reference to the movie. Wasn't trying to be insensitive, but since there didn't seem to be a logical reason I threw that out there.

There's a time and a place. This, however, is neither.

My uncle is a engineer for BNSF and he has had vehicles drive into the side of his train, why couldn't someone walk into the side?

are you serious? theres a big difference between walking into a train and driving into it. driving you may not hear or see it, or your going to fast to stop. How can you just walk into the side? And if you had any motivation to hit the train, why would you wait before its partial past instead of getting in front of it.

Because you got there too late? It isn't a completely impossible theory. You say you don't think it happened but it's not impossible.

Hold on......maybe it is. If she walked into the side she would have gotten caught between cars and likely been dragged. This is weird, that's for sure.

I guess this is a message board discussion so all crazy scenarios are the most likely. I mean look at all the crazy Lacina ones people came up with.

I doubt it was suicide..well at least not planned
there was only a small window of time that she was left alone and I know trains go through ames quite frequently (70+ a day) but it seems odd that she would time it perfect to get hit...the whole thing is just fishy.

I would guess that most unsolved deaths accrue in ways most people would find unlikely. That is part of the reason they are unsolved. Seriously, there was a guy that was found dead beside a road (I think it was down in Oregon). It was determined he fell out of a hot air balloon. If you saw someone laying beside the road would you automatically think that? Even if you know that his injuries were consistent with a fall, you probably would think he died somewhere else and was dumbed there.

I'm not saying that is what happened, but it is a possibility and I think in many ways it is more likely than someone dumping her next to tracks that her friends say she walked by all the time.
