Stop Kony 2012

Be careful -- activism is big business. These people are very good at playing on emotions to get your money. They have car payments and too-big mortgages like many others.

Agreed with those urging caution. Certainly this is a good cause, but just know that there's more to the story than just the 30 minute video.

I think it's a pretty fascinating insight into the human mind to see just how quickly this has caught on with the college-aged demographic though. Spreading like wildfire over social media.

I just started another KONY thread, didn't realize there had been one started already. It's interesting to see light shed on the organization. Still a moving film though.

A couple of links that people might be interested in response to the KONY 2012 campaign:

Kony 2012: Raise Awareness, But Be Aware of Intricacies

Invisible Children: Critiques

The first is a blog post on the subject from a local non-profit organization that works in Kenya.

The second link is a factual response from Invisible Children themselves.

I know there has been a lot of bashing of this campaign, but I encourage people to do their own research and be informed before they form their own opinions.

What they don't cover in their factual response letter is that they had income of $13.7 million in 2011 and spent $8.8 million. What are they doing with the nearly $5 million in net income?

This is funny. I first heard about Joseph Kony in 1994 at Camp Pendelton as someone that we might be going to find. Nothing ever happened. This guy has been around for years and years and now all of the sudden since these guys released this video everyone is concerned and wants to get him.
The main problem is Kony is in hiding and really has no leadership left. If we are going to get him it would be to prosecute him. Not stop what is happening. For every Joseph Kony over in that theatre their are 2000 other guys that will be doing the same stuff on a lesser scale. Only to build it up to his level.
The charity involved in this is as sketchy as they come. They are in it for the money and attention. If they were in it for the right reasons they would have done something 20 years ago to catch this guy.
Don't donate to these idiots. The government is fully aware of Kony and his goons. This charity will do nothing but spend your money on crap.

I'm now realizing this.

I'm not worried about it. The Prince of Nigeria who I sent my bank account number to said he'd use the funds to take down Kony and free the children.
