STFU Clayborn

Not sure what you were reading, but here's what he said regarding Clayborn against KO on passing plays...

"In this game he routinely beat Osemele when he knew a pass was coming. He got plenty of opportunity for that, as Iowa got off to a 3-score lead very early on. Clayborn beat Osemele over and over again in a variety of ways: inside moves, speed around the edge, bull rushing, or throwing him to the side: Clayborn did it all. And all that while routinely being double-teamed. This was about as good a game a defensive end can play without notching a sack. This game was a prime example of why relying on individual sack numbers to evaluate players is not a good idea."

If you think the guys on a Cyclone message board are better at evaluating talent, so be it.

I watched that game repeatedly last year and I don't rememebr clayborn being doubled very much. This guy seems to get mixed up when stunts happen. Great, now I will have to rewatch that crappy game again

Clayborn had 3 total tackles last year against ISU, and zero sacks. That's embarrassing for a guy like Clayborn, no matter how you look at it.

If KO holds the opposing DE across the line from him every game to stats like that, he'd be the #1 pick in the NFL Draft next year.

That article mentions Clayborn tossing KO aside time and time again... and basically just dominating him all game long. Hmmm... interesting he only had 3 tackles and no sacks from such "domination"?

I remember watching this matchup pretty closely last year because going into the game Clayborn was getting crap from other Hawkeye players about how KO owned him the year before, in an attempt to get him pumped up for the game. I really anticipated Clayborn to go out and have a great day trying to prove everyone wrong.... and his name was barely ever called all day long. KO owned him again.

Yes, Iowa dominated the game. But Clayborn did next to nothing. In fact, when you are ahead by that much, DE's can just pin their ears back. But still no mention of Clayborn all day.

Todays yutes can learn a thing or two from future president of the world BARRY SANDERS.

When he scored a touchdown, he would hand the ball to the ref, give his line some love, and take a seat. I only saw him spike the ball a handful of times.

Yet..... They don't, and they haven't. They show maturity and class.

O dear lord wake up! If you don't think all those guys talk **** than you're clueless. They may not do it on Twitter, but they sure as **** have a sense of humor, unlike half this board.

During the Chicago Bulls/Seattle Supersonic NBA finals years ago, Gary Payton was in MJ's ear all game, despite the fact that Jordan was doing Jordan stuff. After the game he was asked if it was wise to talk that much trash when Jordan was on fire. Payton explained that he was quiet the previous game, and Jordan went off. So why not try to get in his head?

Obviously didn't work, but the exchange was hilarious.

Right, don't take it from an NFL scout whose sole purpose that day was to watch that matchup and report on it, and gets paid to do it, with no loyalty to Iowa or ISU.

I'm sure you and your blind hatred of everything black and gold could teach him a thing or two.

I think smack talk is what is wrong with sports. Being a good sportsman and acting with class is a rarity these days.

Especially when the one talking smack plays for the Iowa Barnstormers while the guy he's ripping on plays for the KC Chiefs. Kind of funny, actually.

If 3 total tackles and no sacks is his definition of domination... then I sure hope KO gets dominated all year like that this year.

That idiot scout must have confused ISU with someone else. I've NEVER seen KO get "tossed" around and dominated. Seriously.

I do remember Clayborn being completely gassed at the end of nearly every game though. He sat and watched Northwestern pound it on his teammates near the end of that game while receiving oxygen and water on the sideline.

Clayborn had a BAD year last year. If not for his junior year, he wouldn't have been drafted.

That never happens. :D

A DL doesn't always get sacks or tackles when they dominate, my friend. I don't remember what happened in this game at all, but you can't take stats by a DL and equate that to how well they played.

Tell yourself whatever you need to if it makes you feel better. Makes no difference to me. Like I said, everyone seems to agree that KO got the better of him in 2009. But to close your eyes, hold your breath, and stomp your feet refusing to believe the objective review of a neutral NFL scout who was there and zeroing in on that matchup all day just seems kind of silly. But, whatever. Clayborn's making millions in the NFL, so clearly the joke is on him.

Boy.. 5'9" 185 lb Alexander Robinson must have really blocked Clayborn good then after he tossed KO aside like a ragdoll?

The freaking Bleacher Report thinks KO plays for Idaho State for crying out loud. (they have corrected it since)

Sigh. Run away from him, quick passes, he might have had some hurries, taking up blocks letting LBs get the tackle....it's not all about the stats of DL, like I had said.

Also, their offense went nowhere that day. How many times did they go 3 and out in the first 3 quarters? That will lower your stats pretty good.

ISU managed 179 yards over the first three quarters that day. If Clayborn was so dominated, where were the yards? You'd think they would've run and passed over that side of the line all day.

Do you understand football at all? ISU had to abandon the running game by the 2nd quarter of this beat down.

As an OL, you don't dominate someone when you're pass protecting all day. It's your job to keep the DE off your QB at that point. And KO did that all day long when Iowa's defense knew we had to pass on every play.

Can any of you Hawk fans just admit the fact that Clayborn had a bad year last year? Iowa fans were even dogging him by the end of the year. He had a HUGE dropoff season. But of course you wouldn't even admit that about the almighty Adrian Clayborn. Whatever.
