What is with the lack of Juco recruiting? We’ve gone after a few top guys and missed but we’ve obviously had success in the past with guys a little further down the list like Tyrus and Dustin (I know, ancient history). In retrospect Prohm should have filled some spots in the rebuild year with Jucos. Instead we got a year of Brase, Beverly, two year scholly wasted on Nixon.
IMO they have underperformed under Prohm. Don’t think he should be fired but certainly hasn’t been getting me too excited during his term.
I remember an early prohm interview asking what his offense will look like after Fred’s guys.. and answered with something like he will implement offenses based on the personnel? Think it was just a pretty way of saying how the players play... that’s my offense?
I'm sorry but this crap is stupid. It’s the mentality that lead to us sucking for so long in football. Not believing that better is possible is BS to paraphrase Campbell. Campbell did come here because of the fit and us continuing to support the football team when we were bad. That doesn’t mean that we have to accept bad coaches when it’s clear they aren’t going to be successful.
There seems to be this idea that everyone who is done with Prohm is reacting to one game or even one season. This is a culmination of 5 seasons for some people. We have 5 years to look at at least. The issue is that yeas we will excuse a bad year or so but you also have to earn the buy in too. Prohm has never exceeded expectations. We are 5 years in and nobody has any idea what the identity of the program is. This isn’t an overreaction to the worst upset in college basketball.
I will continue to support the team. I hope they win the rest of their games. I hope Prohm figures it out and becomes the best coach ever. I like him but I won’t let the fact that he is like able cloud my evaluation.
I had a similar reaction to that ridiculous diatribe. He acts as though this is solely a reaction to the FAMU game. To me, I've been relatively unimpressed for some time now based on a handful of factors:
A) This was discussed alot after the Iowa game, but a complete lack of identity. What do Steve Prohm coached teams do well? What is our bread-and-butter? I have no idea. It's not offense, it's not defense, it's not rebounding, it's not toughness. What's our identity?
B) He's had some successful moments, and I will concede you can find some metrics that support his success. But that completely fails to take into account the program he took over. He's benefited from Georges, Naz, Matt, Burton, Monte and Nader. He's had double digit NBA caliber players at his disposal over the last 5 years once you add in the guys he's recruited in THT, Wigginton, Shayok and Haliburton. I'm sorry, but with that kind of talent a sub .500 conference record and one Sweet 16 birth (which lets be honest, was a bit of a gift with drawing Arkansas Little Rock), it's hard to get too excited about his achievements.
C) His player management continues to be an issue. Having Wigginton come off the bench last year was an absolute disaster. Fast forward to this year, where our second best player in Conditt inexplicable rides the pine as we get off to slow start after slow start.
I guess I just am struggling to see the redeeming qualities beyond him being likeable and capable of reeling in the occasional Top 75 recruit.

Cyclone Larry seems like a lot of people that equate D1 college sports to small town rural high school sports.
College coaches get paid millions and criticism is part of the job and is reasonable after what is possibly one of of the worst losses in ISU history. High school coaches in small rural districts generally don't get paid **** and don't have to put up with parents not living in reality.
Financially speaking, Prohm may be the best option for another year or two. I don't see JP buying out $6m now and then paying up for a replacement.
Something to think about: TCU tomorrow will run a lot of pick and roll, and rotate to pop up for a 3, and will likely be tough on defense.
He also has a team completely full of 4 and 5 Star players and has underperformed badly.

"First sign of adveristy" was my favorite line. What a joke. He thinks we are beating Kansas next week also and demands an apology letter from everyone criticizing him after this latest debacle.
Plus, who the hell wants him fired before the TCU game? Even people like me realize its going to be at least 2021 before he's gone unless he manages to turn things around.

The biggest issue with the way we've played up until now is our beginning stretch of Big 12 games. Look at our next 10 games:
at TCU
Kansas
Oklahoma
at Baylor
at TTU
Oklahoma State
at Auburn
Baylor
at Texas
at WVU
We may be a favorite in, what, two of those games (home vs. Oklahoma and Okie State)? I'm just worried that the wheels could fall off this thing quickly.
