Tough crowd, guy came into an impossible situation and made the best of it.

The people citing the loss in the Big 12 tourney as a huge negative blow my mind. That is literally a Final Four team and our PG had a bum shoulder.
Jack it was the coaching and game plan. I fully understand comfirmation bias could be skewing the facts, but the game plan, flow, and game management is far more magnified in pressure. I am reserving judgement u til next season.

Prohm met every test this year, short of contending for the Big 12. That earns him a B, considering everything he had to deal with. But Prohm was never going to be judged by how he handled this year's team. There were ample players here with a system he incorporated into his own in order to see to that. Prohm's real test was always going to be what he does with ISU basketball post-Georges.

We won't know for sure for another year, maybe more. But I know Prohm is a competent leader and he's got a great shot at a long term, successful career at ISU.

In light of the ambiguity of the poll, I will give Prohm a 17 for the year.

But he was hired to succeed with this team. We might have gone with someone else if we just ignored this year.

Like someone else said, he was hired to succeed with this years team but more for the big picture. My point is I don't think he can be graded this season because he had to do things he wouldn't normally have done in an effort to smooth the transition.

Ah, yes, the overhype spin again.

Niang. Morris. A returning DPOY in McKay. A Thomas that improved so much to make up for Naz's loss.

We were absolutely deserving of that hype. Hell, we had so many close losses, it shows we werent all that far from reaching that hype.

If they weren't all that far from reaching that hype, how can you give him a C+ (as the hype was really, really high)?

Lost Long for the season, Morris injured during the stretch run, and Noskowiak never plays a minute. These things happened after the hype train was rolling. I say all this with really high expectations for the year myself, but things changed unfortunately.

I said this in another thread but Prohm was 100% the right choice for this year's team. I give him an A- for this year. Would've been nice to finish a little higher in conference but all things considered Prohm did a great job. That being said, the jury is still out on if he can maintain and elevate our program. I think his first recruiting class looks pretty good for the short time he was here so we will see what he can do with more time.

The correct answer is B.
Too early to tell, so I go with C.
has not proven he can recruit at this level, let the players run the team too long. Still no defense.
I know it was a tough job to inherit, in some ways, and I am certainly willing to give him time.
i do give him credit for dealing with Jameel though.

What specifically are you referring to?

lol

I think Steve did a good job this year. Too early to really know how this program is going to perform based on Fred's style of play he continued. Which was a good idea.

I am optimistic, and think Steve is a dedicate College Coach and will develop players, and be passionate about it. His comments about recruiting being #1 were good to hear, because it really is. After next season, and a full recruiting season as well, we will have a better idea.

The only concern I have is the in game Coaching, which is not all Steve, but we had really bad possessions after timeouts in the first half on Friday night.

I could be wrong, but during the coaching search, didn't all of the media experts basically say that this team could coach itself and all the new guy had to do was give them the ball and get out of the way?

I know and I think he will do a good job in the future but you can't just ignore he didn't do as well as he should have this year. I think he will get A's and high B's from now on but he struggled this year.

I believe you have to look farther than just W/L in terms of this year's performance. VA was the only loss that was a blowout. Previous years there was at least one if not more blowouts. I think the stat guys have all losses down to a single possession with 2 minutes or less. So is there an issue closing games? It was in part to a short bench/tired players, and a clutch shooters injury. Can Prohm improve? Absolutely. Will he? We will see, but judging from his actions and his stated expectations so far, I believe he will.

So much for media experts knowing what they were talking about. If he would have let Nader keep shooting us out of runs and McKay try to do things he can't our season would have been much worse. I was as frustrated as anyone with our rebounding, especially defensive, but I think our defense improved in the last seconds of the shot clock versus previous years by our not bailing out the other team with stupid fouls. We forced them to shoot, got burnt by some long unrealistic 3 pointers and failed to box out. The biggest problem I see with us going forward is rebounding positioning. Prohm gets that fixed our like our chances against anybody. Grade B+
