Starting qb...

I think it'll be Sam. Mainly because Rhoads has said that he was injured far beyond what he ever indicated to the media. I think when both are healthy, Sam gets the nod.

However, Grant now has starting experience where he didn't at the beginning of last year.

I really think both guys are capable of executing the offense, and I felt last year that it didn't really matter who started with the way our O-line was blocking. I think it'll be the same thing this year. They've got to get protection for our offense to be productive.

I'm warming my arm up for when both GR and SR get bashed and systematically have their confidence shaken.
FIFY. Thus the hope for a better offensive line.

My money is on Richardson, but Rohach would neither surprise nor disappoint me. With anything resembling an offensive line, either guy has the tools to be pretty good.
This. I don't have a clue what some people are saying when they say SR couldn't make plays in the passing game--perhaps it's a selective memory. I think that just about any QB on the roster, given some time in the pocket, with a decent running game for balance, can be a winning B12 quarterback. Whatever quarterback starts will be good with me.

I can honestly say it doesn't matter to me who starts. I just want a stud at QB. A play maker and a leader that the whole team will believe in. Give me DeAndre Kane in pads.

Or Monte Morris . . . rare turnovers!

It doesn't matter much to me as long as we stop calling SR "sammy football." Dorks.

This is me as well. I'd put my money on Richardson. When healthy he has looked very good.

I think that it depends on what kind of offense they actually run. If MM is running his KU offense, I can't think of a better comparison to Reesing than Sam Richardson. He has the Reesing skill set. If they run more of the KSU Michael Bishop offense, then it wouldn't surprise me to see Lanning starting. He's the bigger, more physical kid with the strongest arm. He can run the zone read and beat defenses deep. If it's a combination of those two offenses, then I would say that Rohach has the best shot. I'm just going to assume that MM is smart enough to avoid calling QB runs 20 times a game.

I rarely trust the Scout/Rivals ranking, but took a look at Scout to see how they projected the upside of each QB. Seems DLC might have the highest upside and is know for running ability. Interestingly, the two 2015 QB's the Cyclones seem to be recruiting the hardest have the highest rankings in the past decade (according to Scout): Burrow - 4Star, 26 and Boyle - 3Star, 45. Rankings below...

2014
Darius Lee Campbell - 3Star, NR 47

2013
Joel Lanning - 3Star, NR 65
Kyle Starcevich - No Ranking
Trevor Hodge - 2Star, NR 107

2012
Grant Rohach - 3Star, NR 73

2011
Sam Richardson - 3Star, NR 136

I don't think that Boyle was ever that high on the list. To me, the QBs that ISU is recruiting hardest are:

Burrow - 26 (only QB offer so far)
Willis - 37
Schlichte - 44

They can afford to be picky, as they have plenty of QBs on the roster already. It wouldn't surprise me if they lost out on those three that they just don't sign one this year.

Mangino will run whatever system is best for the personnel we have, which probably has a lot to do with the best QB. If Richardson or Rohach emerge as the starter, than less designed runs. If Lanning emerges as the starter than it will be more of a zone read based system.

It starts witht the O-Line, look at this years super bowl, Pressure the greatest qb of all time and he doesn't play well, simple as that. I am confident the O-Line will look better because they will be running a traditional scheme not the pistol strong side weak side stuff. Plus they likely won't be run into the ground by a coach they hate.

Another thing, we have a proven B12 coordinator in MM, if he can't get it done at ISU with this personel then likely it can't be done with these peraticular guys. Its not like he has had blue-chippers all the time in his past either.

As far as the qb situation, I like rohach's arm strength and ability to sit in the pocket longer that SR. Couple that with a nice safety blanket in Bibbs and we maybe in business.

The biggest thing I feel in this year's offense for me is my confidence that these kids are being coached correctly and they will be put in the best position to succeed by MM, huge difference from the last 2 years.

Listen to the D'Vario Montgomery interview. Coaches will take this into account. Montgomery is a big time receiver with lots of Richardson history. Then watch the Spring Game. And finally throw most of this spring practice stuff out the window because lots will change by the time fall is here. My bet, Sam Richardson all the way, and Richardson and Montgomery will have a record breaking year.

You're forgetting Bundrage... but yes, I agree they could be good.
