I thought they should have put him in especially on defense late in the game.
I agree -> Babb needs more playing time.. I wonder if Naz would be ok coming off the bench and playing the McGee type roll for a while. He could do that and still be on the court for "starter" type minutes (and late game situations). Either that or start off small (with Holden on the bench and Babb in the game).
Naz and Matt aren't really playmakers. They both are looking to spot up or attack close outs. When they were fourth or fifth options, they had a lot more opportunities to do those things, they would catch their defenders rotating to help against Niang or dropping down to McKay. Now they are second or third options, and their defenders are sticking to them a lot more. Teams aren't as worried about helping against Holden, Bowie or Babb or whoever else is in there. Neither one of those guys is really able to create one on one off the dribble, they need to be coming off more screens and catching the ball on the move to make stuff happen.
Especially against a big physical team like Cincy that we were struggling to rebound against.
Not calling anybody out at all. I might not have made my point clearly enough last night in my Vikings/Cyclones induced state, but I think Naz would be better suited coming off the bench at this point to provide a McGee-type spark. That is provided his shooting rounds back into his Sophomore/early Junior form.
There's no doubt that he's been a great Cyclone and has helped us win games this year, which he would no doubt continue to do off the bench. He's also played quite poorly in a few games, which might be easier to absorb off the bench. I'm obviously not the coach, but last I checked this is a message board where fans are allowed to voice their opinions, yeah?
It would be nice if one of those chucked/deep/well-defended 3's went in early in the game for Naz because that scares a defense playing ISU. Right now, defenses are fine with us chucking it contested rather than ISU making the "extra pass" that we have been known for the past couple of years.
The guys gotta keep their confidence up. We're not a second rate team. Cincy is a tourney team and not a bad loss. The offense needs to SHARE the ball and make the extra pass here for the rest of the non-con. When that happens, good things happen and TEMPO will follow. It's pretty simple.

I agree that these guys are playing the best right now, but starting all five of them together likely means Jackson, Long, and Holden will be on the floor together. Depending on who stays with them, it could make us really small or offensively challenged. CSP needs to find the right rotation to keep us balanced throughout the game. We can't play just 5 or 6 guys.
Well you don't have to worry about Holden ever being on the floor for more than a couple minutes at a time due to his outstanding fouling rate.

He's the inside post threat that we've really been missing.
Often you will see coaches start their big best post defender, even though he may not be the best player. The reason is that you are able to at least match up your best post defender with the other team's best post scorer early in the game. Inside players spend a lot of time on the bench with fouls/fatigue so you can often get more time with better matchups for Bowie off the bench.
Seems like most of Naz's attempts as of late have been contested and/or off the dribble. His problem is a microcosm of our whole offensive woes right now. There is no ball movement, no post presence, just a bunch of isolation with guys that aren't good enough to win the 1-on-1 consistently.
I'd love to see Babb play more, and I'd also like to see Bowie start over Holden. Holden might be a bit taller but is an absolute liability on offense and doesn't rebound worth a crap. I honestly would not be surprised if Solomon Young is playing 20-30 a game by the end of the season.
Lastly, I think we are all finally realizing how good Georges and Abdul Nader really were last year

I'm confused; last year we wanted guys that would just come in push people around and foul people and now we don't?
Holden does a great job hedging and getting back. I think that's his real strength as a post defender.
We did not blow out UC last year. We hit a three late and then survived multiple attempts by UC in the closing seconds to get the win. I was at that game. Watching the game last night, I think this UC team is much better than that team. It is time to calm down. Every year there is an over reaction to a loss in our non-conference schedule. We need to improve in several areas, but that is the case every year. We have some real talent and we have some depth. Let Coach Prohm do his thing.
