Start Bench Cut: RB

Why do people think Troy has better OL? Not saying it is not true. But if so, how does ISU get that back since overall recruiting is better.

Breece seems like best RB due to his speed and overall skill, but I watched Troy in person and all he did was never fumble and grind yard after yard as center of offense. So tough call

Not only did he not fumble, but he carried the ball like 25-30 times a game and was never injured. To quote the Saints coach at the time, “Troy is tougher than a $2 steak.” He was so shifty and could accelerate through holes. He was one of the best college backs ever. His stats back that up! He did lack that long, break away speed.

That lack of break away speed and his size (I ran into him in cafeteria, Troy was solid but short) cost him more of a chance in NFL. Certainly tough enough, his back to back 2K years was nuts

Start Breece. He is the best back for this era.
Bench David. He is a game-changer when he comes in. All-time best tackle-breaker.
Cut Troy. He may have been the best of all-time, but I just prefer Breece for this era.

To answer your first question….two words……. Steve …… Loney.

To answer your second question………three words…….hire …..Steve …..Loney.

In all seriousness, with Loney as the line / OC, we didn’t have the best recruits / talent, but we had some of our most cohesive offensive lines in the program’s history. All they had to do was leave one person (famously said …..”that guy is for Troy”…..) and Troy would do the rest.

I know he was still involved with the program up until a few years ago - he is getting up there in age, and from Wiki it appears he is in the USFL.

The Fiesta Bowl oline was one of the better lines we have had in quite awhile. Just been a challenge to duplicate.

If you watch the films, he's got more room to run. A good back also has to read the holes and create on their own so he still get plenty of credit for doing what seems impossible considering how bad the team in general was.

He was also super shifty, balanced and a workhorse but he at least got the ball and had room, as opposed to Mongtomery who was often getting hit right on the hand off.

There is a reason Troy is in the hall of fame. But if you have the luxury of having two of these guys…it’s Troy and Breece. Call them Smash and Dash

What were Troy's fumble numbers like? He seems to hold on to the ball so well even with guys yanking on his arms.

How many other schools have had 3 different players be the best running back in the country for a season?
