Stamped concrete patio ?'s

I am wanting to put down a stamped concrete patio at my home in Ankeny. We put one down in our old place in KC and absolutely loved it. We have received one estimate, but I was curious if any fanatics had any recommendations of someone in the Des Moines area? Also, does anyone know the going rate on per sq ft on stamped concrete?
 
I had stamped concrete put in for a patio last year and love it. I am up in the Algona area tho.
 
I really like the look of a stamped concrete patio but they always seem to end up cracking. Have you compared the cost of having a paver patio installed?

Yep, I have compared the price. If maintained properly(sealed), I feel the stamped concrete looks a lot better than the pavers.
 
We had a stamped concrete poured last Summer and love it!

Off the top of my head... stamped concrete ran us close to $12.5/SF vs. Pavers, which ran anywhere from $18-$25/SF (depending on the type of paver).

Are you in the DM metro? If so, who did your patio?
 
It's pretty easy to do it yourself if you find a place to rent the stamps and buy the dyes.

I'd recommend calling the closest cement plant and ask them if they'd recommend a place to either rent the stamps, or recommend a concrete company that can do it.
 
As soon as that stamped concrete patio cracks it's going to look crappy. The concrete WILL crack and when it does what do you do? You can't fill a crack because you'll never get the color to match. I've seen stamped concrete patios 5-7 years after they were poured and not one of them looks good.

They look great when freshly poured, but look crappy as they age. Just an honest mans opinion.

In 5-7 years it will be the other owners problem :smile:
 
I have a stamped and stained patio that we put in two years ago. This winter, it got a diagonal crack in the middle of it. I found a silicone caulk to put in the crack instead of the normal gray crack sealer. It's clear and it doesn't make the crack so obvious. I need to reseal it this spring too.
 
One option is to make cuts in the stamped concrete with a diamond blade saw once it's set and stained. I've seen a lot of stamped pads like that. It's not very noticeable. A concrete contractor should have a saw that could do this.
 
Checkout, I believe the name is Elite Concrete, out of Des Moines. The owner is from my hometown.
 
Cyflier - looks good. Who did it and would you mind throwing out a few numbers on the job?
