Speeding tolerances in the Midwest

Over the next 4 weeks, I will be driving close to 5100 miles not counting daily 40 mile commute and misc. miles. From Ames/Ankeny areas to Tulsa OK, Burlington IA, Estes Park CO, Madison WI, Minneapolis MN, & Overland Park KS. Mostly interstate miles. How many miles over the posted speed limit in IA, MO, KS, OK, NE, CO, WI & MN is generally safe to drive without getting a ticket? Every extra mph I can average will cut my driving time 1.5-2hrs roughly.
 
Always drive 5 over on highways and interstates and never have had a speeding ticket.
 
Don't speed in Wisconsin. There's a stretch of interstate near me that's 55mph. People actually speed up from 80 to 85 during this stretch. State patrol used to sit there all the time, but I haven't seen them there in quite a while.
 
Never been pulled over and I usually do 74 in a 65 and 79 in a 70 here in Iowa. My driving experience is only 7ish years though.
 
I agree with the 5 over and you won't have any problem. The times I've been out in western Nebraska 80mph is pretty common on the interstate but I don't know what the actual speed limit is. Wi used to not be very tolerant at all once you were past the 5 over they would pull over but that was a few years ago.

If you don't mind taking your chances on interstates you could probably run 10 over and have no problem, if you hit a speed trap you'll probably get a ticket. As always run with the flow of traffic and you'll probably be ok.

I went down to the Baylor game and probably ran between 75 and 85 all the way thru Ok. and Tx.
 
It seems the line for most cops around here is about 10 over. So, given margin of error in their equipment and slight variability in speed, 7 over is usually safe.
 
I've anyways give with the "8 you're great, 9 you're mine" that I've heard cops use.
 
I generally drive 5 over, but my rear end and bum knee want me to step it up for awhile.

If I ride the motorcycle in western Nebraska I find myself always creeping up towards 100. Every time I back it down to about 80 and see it creeping up again.
 
I usually try to stay about 7-8 on the interstate and haven't had any trouble getting pulled over with that besides an Iowa State license plate holder.

On local highways back in western Iowa I usually only go 59-60 b/c I've been pulled over and ticketed numerous times for going 62-65.
 
I usually do 6 over on 55 highways, 7 over on 65 highways, and 8 over on 70 highways.

i am comfortable going faster than this on 4 lane highways if I have other cars around me speeding or it's an area that's not easy to cross the median or sit in the median for the cops.

I try to be vigilant in looking for cops and always hit cancel on my cruise the second I see them. I think it helps me slow down by the time they can gun me and its not as obvious as slamming your brakes.
 
Speed limits on I80 through Nebraska is 75 in the "country". Around the cities it varies- Omaha is 60-65, Lincoln is 65. Most all highways in Nebraska is 60 and a few 65's. Would be nice if Iowa was the same...
 
4-6 over during the day and near the speed limit later at night. Not that I have been drinking just don't want the hassle and delay in being pulled over.
 
My brother used to install the electronics for the Iowa state patrol and they told him they allow 7, stop at 8. Unless they see a radar detector then they stop at 3. My cousin was a Polk County Deputy. He said they never stop for less than 10 because if the driver challenges and they have to go to court, the deputy doesn't get paid unless the ticket is for 10 mph over or more.

In any case, I've driven a LOT of highway miles and I set my cruise control at 7mph over regardless of the limit. I've blown through at least a hundred speed traps and never been stopped.
