ISU certainly helped that Iowa D , again choosing to shoot 3 after 3 after 3. I said this before and will say it again, I know analytics says a 15 foot jumper is a bad shot, but when you shoot the 3 ball like ISU, analytics need to be tossed out the window and play like the 3 point line does not exist

Actually if you shoot 25% from 3 (0.75 points per possession) and 45% from 15 feet (0.9 ppp) the analytics would say shoot the 15 footer.

He isn't getting fired in 2020 or 2021.
Maybe not, but the performance at last night's game was one of the most embarrassing I've watched in many, many years. Sure there have been other bad losses, but this one to UI at home and in such a butt-kicking was hard to stomach. We have built some nice momentum in basketball over the years and this year I sense it is slipping away.

It isn't as if this is something new for this year. We haven't been able to shoot 3s all year, except for once. Whose fault is that. You and I didn't recruit these players....and if you are going to play the long ball, you better get guys who can hit the 3s. This is sad!! VERY sad!

Do you really think its a good idea to move on so quickly removed from a Big 12 Tournament Championship and NCAA tournament appearance. I don't think it'd be a good look for our athletics department and I think Prohm is safe until at least 2021.

People are just venting. Even as pissed as they are right now, barely 14 hours off an embarrassing loss, it's still 52-48 that Prohm is the right guy. Take the same poll in a week or two after the anger subsides and it's probably 70-30 or more. Take it after beating Kansas and it's probably 90-10.

The trend is cause for concern but nowhere near talk of firing a head coach IMO.

Last year was a 5th place finish in the conference, and an immediate out from the NCAA tournament. With the talent that was a disappointing season.

The conference tournament was fun, but fluky given we got KSU without Wade and a bad KU team instead of Tech.

I support CSP, he is a very good recruiter and still developing as a game coach. As much as I hate to use this comparison - Scott Drew started out as just a recruiter and not a good coach and we see what he's done for Baylor. I view CSP in a similar fashion.
I keep seeing this comparison but I’m just not seeing it. I will give Drew credit he is now a good coach. He had some signs pointing to being good though. Baylor historically wasn’t good. He also had some early successes. What sign other than recruiting shows a similar trajectory for Prohm?

Give it a little bit more time this year before thinking it's slipping away. This team got their buts kicked by a solid Iowa team. Win the next two and you're 8-5. Go .500 in conference and you have 17 wins. Not exactly a great season but that'll put us in the tournament. A long way to go for sure, but that's not unrealistic to think we absolutely cannot turn things around.

I think Prohm needs to show steady improvement over the course of the 2020 season. 8-10 would be a good target for this team. 7-11 is OK and anything less is disappointing.

If they go 7-11 or worse in Bix XII play, and then next year do something similar or worse, then I think you can start having a conversation about a coaching change.

But Prohm deserves at least that much more time.

Can you email Steve P please :)
Dear Steve: Do you know how much Iowa Staters despise the University of Iowa and its athletic teams. No, it's not just another game. It is a chance to move into a position of equality, perhaps superiority, over a university and teams who have treated ISU like a "little brother" and patted us on the head along the way, generally feeling they would always have the upper hand on us. Much has changed. ISU is a bigger and better university. We have come sooooo far in such a short period of time to gain the respect we deserve. Students and alumni alike lined up around Hilton last night to pack the house to watch YOUR team earn a much-needed win. Again, YOUR team peed it down their collective legs. This one is on you, buster. Either get 'em up for games like this or go find another Division I-AA or II team. This is big time basketball. Please consider whether you are up to it. If not, move on...................

So you agree with my post. Any explanation to yours? Is it just a hunch or have you heard anything? No inside info on mine, just think that JP has shown a lot of patience with previous hires that struggled.

There is enough talent for this team to win. He will continue to occasionally get unforeseen wins over the next couple years. This isn't going to fall apart....rather my concern is the slow slide backwards. The idea that at some point our fanbase will accept an NCCA tournament every other year...then every three years..that is my greatest fear. Not a complete free-fall. He is too good of a recruiter and motivator for that to happen.

Keep in mind, we also had a shot at winning the Big 12 regular season after the big win at KState, but then collapsed the rest of the regular season, going 1-5 including a loss to the 10th place team in the conference.

7-11 with a lottery pick in a down Big 12 would be an absolute failure. That means a 15-16 season. That would be okay? Give me a break.

You could probably tweak this and send it to JP. Our performance in the CyHawk series in all the major sports has been disappointing recently.

That’s my fear as well, we could have our highest draft pick in 20 years and not make the tournament. Especially a player like TH...who is not a ball dominate scorer, but a do everything player with a bent on getting everyone involved.
