Eh it's more to do with the fact it's a heated rivalry and despite OU being WAY better than Texas the last several years, the Longhorns have made it one hell of a game. including last year's crazy 4OT thriller that OU won 53-45. A few years of past results:

2019: OU 34 - #22 UT 27 (Although unranked, we all knew the Sooners were the better team last year and it wasn't particularly close as the season got rolling)
2018 (Big 12 Championship): #6 OU 39 - #11 UT 27
2018: #19 UT 48 -v #7 OU 45
2017: #12 OU 29 - UT 24
2016: #20 OU 45 - UT 40
2015: UT 24 - #10 OU 17
2014: #11 OU 31 - UT 26
2013: UT 36 - #12 OU 20

All but one of the last 8 matchups is a one possession game. Twice Texas has won as an unranked team against a top-12 Oklahoma team and the other win Oklahoma was #7 in the country. Three other Texas losses were when they were unranked and Oklahoma was ranked, yet still were all decided by5 points apiece. Point is, they obviously play the Sooners as good as anyone in the conference even if they don't always get the W.

I could actually put Texas over ISU. They're in 'rebuild' mode but that game comes a month into the season and there's been other times when UT looked done and punked really good OU teams.

Ya, don’t disagree. But it’s like our game with ToE. It’s rarely predictable. They also have a significantly more talented rostered than almost every other team on OU schedule. Yes, I know they infrequently harness it.

I and every non-Texas fan hope this is the case for not only this year, but for the foreseeable future. I want nothing but terrible hires and turmoil for Texas for 50+ years. Wishful thinking, but man that would be great for them to never make a CFP in the next several decades.
