Let's see, since living in Iowa I have been a resident of Oregon, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Nevada, and Alaska and through all those moves, I have never felt that pull "to get back home."

Definitely, yes. I was never really looking to leave, but at the time of my graduation, it worked out that my best opportunity was out west. At the time I figured I'd give it a try, if for no other reason than to experience something different. I always knew I'd probably want to come back, and after 3 and half years, that's what I did. I'm glad I experienced "life in the big city" if for no other reason than to confirm that Iowa was where I really wanted to be.
I was born in Germany but for all practical purposes my entire youth was in Iowa; from year 1 to year 22. I also have a brother and my mom that reside in Spencer, Iowa.
Same here. Graduated ISU '92. Forced to move to Chicago (few engineering jobs in Iowa at the time). Missed Iowa and didn't think the big city would be a good place for a family and was very happy to get back to "God's Country" (Ames) in '98. Have had opportunities to leave Iowa since - but won't.
There's definitely a pull back to this place once you've been here.
I agree with you about living in big cities. I've lived in a number of large cities myself and don't believe there is enough money that would cause me to live in another city.

That's not something you hear often, where were you from originally? I was born and raised in Iowa, but definitely did not become a true Cyclone for life until I went to ISU. And in all honesty, my love for Iowa State was a big part of Iowa's "pull" to bring me back.
He also talked to Jonnie Majors today and has talked football with him. He also spent 7hrs talking ISU FB with JP. Already talking to HS coaches in the state. This guy will get it done at ISU.

I liked the press conference, he looks like he will be a passionate guy, reminded me a lot of Dan McCarney though...
the weather is a lot warmer from where I am from...plus people of IA are salt of the Earth,
how much do I love ISU? lets just say my ashes will be scattered in secret somewhere near the Campanile... :wink:
